EA Sports has guaranteed gamers a sequel to its UFC: Undisputed rival MMA despite its terrible sales.

"There is definitely going to be an EA Sports MMA 2," EA Sports' Jeff Ecker said in a podcast with wrestling site Figure Four Daily, reported by CrunchGear.

It's not a question of if, but when, apparently. The original plan was for the game to alternate years with the Fight Night franchise, which has Fight Night Champion due in 2011, but that plan looks set to change.

Analysts described EA Sports' MMA game as an unmitigated failure following its release.

"EA's recently released MMA appears to be more or less DOA at retail, while UFC recently announced an extension of its license with THQ, likely putting an end to EA's efforts to expand into the mixed martial arts genre," said Doug Creutz of Cowan & Company in October.

Matt Edwards awarded a respectable 7/10 in Eurogamer's EA Sports MMA review, but the game could only manage a number 23 debut on the UK all-formats chart.
