Editor's blog: Merry Christmas!

We'll be back next year, but stick around for our games of 2014.

I'm calling it. 2014: it's been emotional. It was a turbulent year in video games, perhaps not a vintage one, but dammit if we can't stop playing the things regardless. I know what I'm doing as soon as I've finished this post; the kettle's on, the mince pie is warmed and the Battle.net launcher is primed and ready.

As usual, we're taking the Christmas holidays off to indulge ourselves; today is our last day at work here on Eurogamer until 2015. As usual, though, we've prepared plenty of stuff for you to enjoy over the break.

Tomorrow we'll kick off our Games of 2014 series, in which Eurogamer staffers and contributors pick and write about their personal favourites of the year: some of the titles you'd expect and a few you might not. We'll run one or two entries every day through to New Year's Eve. (I implore you to check out Wes' entry on Christmas morning in particular.)

Then, on 1st January 2015, we'll reveal our Game of the Year. As is EG tradition, in an uncharacteristic attack of democracy this was picked by polling staff and contributors (and we might just give you a sneak peek at how the voting panned out, too). On 2nd January it's your turn, with the results of the readers' game of the year poll in an epic top 50 countdown. Do you agree with us? You haven't always...

Semi-normal service will be resumed on the 2nd and over the weekend of 3rd and 4th January, as Digital Foundry comes back from a restful reboot and Cara Ellison takes her turn in our new series of regular Saturday morning columns. Then we're back to full strength on Monday 5th January. I'm really excited about where Eurogamer's headed in 2015, and I hope you will be too when I get to tell you about it some time in the new year.

In the meantime, from all of us, wishing you and yours all the best for a merry Christmas and a very happy new year. Thanks for reading!
