E3 may not officially begin until tomorrow, but try telling that to Microsoft, Sony, EA, and Ubisoft. Actually, don't, because you can't get a word in edgewise with these guys. Between the four of them, they talked for about seven hours. But after all the press-conferencing and bloviating was over, we retreated to downtown L.A. and compared notes.

John Teti and Oli Welsh will be podcasting all week from E3, and today they were joined by Wesley Yin-Poole, your intrepid news editor. Wesley is excited about Halo, and John was delighted by a two-second glimpse of Hot Shots Golf. We all have our vices.

The conversation begins with talk of the Microsoft folks, who kicked off the press-conference parade, as is their wont. They rode the Kinect pony real hard today, with mixed results (not to mention a brewing backlash among the fans). We also discuss Microsoft's secret to success, according to Microsoft. It's way more obvious than you might expect!

We marvel at Sony's ability to fill a great deal of time with not a terrible lot of news. There's a debate over the Vita's vitals - namely, what's with that name (and does it matter)? We also discuss whether Sony exec Jack Tretton would sell you a new car or help you win one, and John explains why Kaz Hirai got booed.

The software pressers - namely EA and Ubisoft - lead to a discussion of violence, diversity, and cracker-eating Frenchmen. There sure were a lot of shooters, and a lot of number threes, in the mix today. Find out why we thought Rayman Origins, Overstrike, and Tomb Raider were some welcome bits of color in a day that started to feel pretty same-y by the end.

Finally, if you're wondering what to serve at your Vita launch party, we concoct a recipe in a trans-Atlantic exchange of strange supermarket foods.

Don't forget to tweet @johnteti throughout the day tomorrow with your E3 thoughts and questions. We may talk about them on the podcast and make you famous beyond your wildest dreams.
