Forbes.com has declared former Nintendo chairman Hiroshi Yamauchi is the wealthiest man in Japan.

Yamauchi retired from the company in 2005 after 55 years of service, remaining a major shareholder. His net worth has more than tripled since and now stands at USD 7.8 billion. The 80 year-old's net income rose by 48 per cent last year to reach USD 2.5 billion.
