Fallout 4 mod seeks to give Fallout 2 a lick of fresh paint
Oregonal content.
There's been plenty of negativity surrounding the Fallout series as of late - so today it's time to focus on something rather more hopeful. Following in the footsteps of other remake mods like Fallout New California, one modding team is using Fallout 4 to give Fallout 2 a rad-ical makeover.
Fallout 4: Project Arroyo, named after the tribal village in Fallout 2, was publicly announced on Reddit back in December. Some commenters were sceptical as to whether the project would get off the ground - but earlier today the team shared more information and several screenshots to give us our first look.
"Fallout 2 became my favourite Fallout game when I began playing it," team member DoctWhite stated on Reddit. "The branching questlines, dynamic stories, and the immersive universe all called my name, however there was one problem for me. That is the game's isometric and outdated gameplay.
"It is a treasure trove of unique and interesting stories hidden behind an old engine. We want to bring back the game in its full deserved glory from top to bottom."
To achieve this vision, Project Arroyo's modders are introducing Fallout 2's "skills, perks, weapons, locations, NPCs and everything in between" to the world of Fallout 4. They've already created the town of Modoc, and definitely seem to have captured the desolate feel of the original game. Next on the to-do list is Vault City, which hopefully won't resemble a bunch of bungalows made out of tin cans. Based on the team's work so far, however, I have high hopes.
Along with the location screenshots, one of the modders has shared some work-in-progress models of guns, outfits and signs for the project. With weekly meetings, original models and a plan (ok Dutch), it seems the team is taking this very seriously.
It's early stages for Project Arroyo, and it will probably be several years before we see the end product. The team is still looking for new members who have experience with the Fallout creation kit, so if you're a programmer, level designer, artist or modeler, get in touch with DoctWhite on Reddit. Time to rebuild America.
