Final Fantasy 12 - Piscodaemon Mark location, requirements and strategies for the Rank V Black Sorceror

How to take on Piscodaemon in Final Fantasy 12.

Here on this page of our Final Fantasy 12 Hunts and Marks guide, we'll be taking you through everything you need to know in order to defeat Piscodaemon - a Rank V Mark for The Black Sorceror Hunt - including the Petitioner and Mark's locations, the Hunt requirements, and strategies for the battle itself.

If you're looking for one of the other Marks however, you can head back to our Final Fantasy 12 Hunts and Marks locations, requirements and strategies hub. For other tips and explainers meanwhile, head to our Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age guide and walkthrough, where we cover plenty more.

Piscodaemon and The Black Sorceror Hunt location and requirements

Before you get to the actual battle, here's everything you need to know about Piscodaemon and The Black Sorceror Hunt:

  • Prerequisites: Get the Treaty Blade during the story.
  • Recommended level: 50
  • Petitioner location: Mt. Bur-Omisace, Temple Grounds
  • Mark location: Giruvegan, Gate of Fire
  • Reward: 3800 Gil, Dark Shot, Scathe Mote

You can find the petitioner Ivaness at the foot of the stairs just outside the temple door. He is uncharacteristically helpful in telling you exactly where the mark can be found - no vague clues, no cryptic puzzles: it's in the Gate of Fire.

Teleport to Giruvegan, use the Way Stones to head inside, and negotiate the ramps once again; everything's still unlocked since your last visit so you can just head directly to the end, and don't be ashamed to just Flee through the area - by now you should be able to one-shot the enemies here and they offer very little threat, so stopping to fight them all is just a time wasting exercise.

Piscodaemon strategies and how to defeat it

When you reach the crystal use it if you need, and then head through the Bulkhead into the Gate of Fire. Head left up the ramp as before, but this time make for the back of the area. It's probably a good idea to take out any stray "ordinary" enemies (if anything in this place can be called ordinary) lurking around before engaging the Piscodaemon just in case they decide to join in at an awkward moment.

The Piscodaemon is another foe that's especially fond of status effects, particularly Disease and Blind. He also makes use of Death, so cure Disease in preference to everything else - dying whilst you're infected is pretty awkward to recover from. He'll also keep trying to buff himself, so using Dispel not only stops him from gaining an advantage, it will keep him somewhat occupied trying to restore his enhancements. If you catch him preparing a Soul Etude, immediately use a Quickening - if you let him finish he'll regain all his HP and you'll be back to square one.

Head back to the petitioner and collect your reward - of the three items, the cash is probably the most useful.
