Final Fantasy 12 - Ixion location, requirements and strategies for the Rank VI Fishy Dreams

How to take on Ixion in Final Fantasy 12.

Here on this page of our Final Fantasy 12 Elite Hunts and Marks guide, we'll be taking you through everything you need to know in order to defeat Ixion - a Rank VI Elite Mark for the Fishy Dreams Hunt - including the Petitioner and Mark's locations, the Hunt requirements, and strategies for the battle itself.

If you're looking for one of the other Marks however, you can head back to our Final Fantasy 12 Hunts and Marks locations, requirements and strategies hub. For other tips and explainers meanwhile, head to our Final Fantasy 12 The Zodiac Age guide and walkthrough, where we cover plenty more.

Ixion and the Fishy Dreams Hunt location and requirements

Before you get to the actual battle, here's everything you need to know about Ixion and the Fishy Dreams Hunt:

  • Prerequisites: Complete Pharos.
  • Recommended level: 60+
  • Petitioner location: Balfonheim Port, The Whitecap
  • Mark location: The Pharos, Subterra
  • Reward: 3000 Gil, Sapping Bolts, Ragnarok

We'd recommend you also start the next hunt, God or Devil, at the same time as they both occur in the same area.

Speak to the Whitecap Wench in the Whitecap pub in Balfonheim, and then teleport to Pharos. The Dais of Ascendence (hereafter referred to as “the lift”) is now active, and will take you down to a lower floor, The Penumbra.

Ixion has a random chance of spawning on any floor in this area, but for now you can't get to any others so you'll have to hope for the best. If you see abaddon toads in the area it means he's a no-show so get back on the lift and go up then come back down again; repeat as many times as needed for him to show up. (Oh, and he's a horse, not a fish. Go figure.)

Ixion strategies and how to defeat it

You'll need to have some sort of protection against, or cure for, Slow, Stop, Disable, Poison, Disease, Sap, Sleep, and Silence (so basically everything) - we'd recommend making your healer the party leader so you can keep them at a safe distance, and only move them in when they're needed.

Apart from his smorgasbord of status effects, Ixion will use physical attacks that hit for 2000-2500HP, and a variety of elemental spells that can hit for 4000HP or more. He'll use Purify if you try and put status effects on him, and towards the end of the battle he'll use White Wind to make himself completely impervious to them, and in the last 25% of his life he'll bring out Fearga to drain your MP completely, so have Charge or Ether at the ready.

The reward's nothing to write home about, but while you're here you might as well do God or Devil which has a much better prize.
