Deathgaze and the Visitor on Deck Hunt location and requirements

Before you get to the actual battle, here's everything you need to know about Deathgaze and the Visitor on Deck Hunt:

  • Prerequisites: Get the Treaty Blade during the story.
  • Recommended level: 52
  • Petitioner location: Any Aerodrome
  • Mark location: Airship, Upper Observation Deck
  • Reward: 3400 Gil, 2 Elixirs

The petitioner can be found in the Aerodrome in Rabanastre, Nalbina, Balfonheim, Bhujerba, or Archades - he's a young boy stood talking to his parents. Talk with him at one Aerodrome, then head to the next and talk to him again; you'll need to speak to him at every location, and eventually he will say "I saw it just a while ago. If you go now you might be able to catch it. Hurry!"

Now board an Airship - doesn't matter where it's going - and choose to travel by Leisure Craft. Once you're aboard there'll be an announcement and some general panic, and Deathgaze can be found on the observation deck.

Deathgaze strategies and how to defeat it

When you confront him start with Dispel. He'll erect a physical barrier so you'll have to do most of the work with magic - Scourge or Bio will eventually hit him with Sap, and anything other than wind attacks should pile on the damage. His physical shield will wear off eventually at which point you can switch to regular attacks if you'd prefer. During this phase he'll possibly inflict Disease with his physical attacks, so Cleanse or Serum anyone afflicted as soon as possible.

When his HP is low he may try and use Renew, but he may also cast Reverse on himself - if that happens stop your attacks immediately and start throwing Curaja at him, and then resume business as usual when it wears off. He'll soon erect a magic barrier so switch to physical attacks, and once he starts continually hitting you with Scourge you know he's one the ropes.

Not much to say about the reward; it is what it is. The family sounds incredibly rich, though, so they could have done a lot better…
