Final Fantasy 15 Chapter 9 - Altissia, The Summit, Camelia meeting answers, The Trial of Leviathan

How to complete Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy 15.

Chapter 9 takes us to a whole new area - Altissia - and with it an important Summit, and Camelia meeting and another Trial. Hopefully you've got your full of Lucis after Chapter 8, and get ready to explore somewhere new.

Altissia, City on the Sea

Recommended level: 29

The opening boat trip takes nearly 10 minutes, so either make a cup of tea and get comfortable or skip it - there's some background dialogue during the journey that you'll miss, but none of it is crucial.

Once on dry land head to the immigration booth. Getting Cid to do the talking will cost you 3,000 Gil, so leave it to Ignis to get you in for free. The city is a somewhat confusing warren and your goal isn't accessible on foot, so head north along the waterfront, pass the hotel, and read the Gondola sign ahead before hopping on one and travelling to the floating market.

Talk to Weskham, and after you've asked him a few questions Camelia will turn up. Talk to her, and then head back to the hotel by gondola.

Rest up if you need, then get back on the gondola and head for Ministerial Quarters station. Climb the stairs next to the ice cream stand, follow them up, and cross the bridge to reach Camelia's house and talk to the guard outside the gates - once you've entered you won't be able to return to the city, so make sure you've done everything you wanted to do.

Yo the following answers during the meeting to get the best reward you can - 4x Oracle Ascension Coins:

  • Gratitude
  • Concern
  • Truth
  • Truth
  • Concern for city
  • Agree
  • Agree
  • Confident
  • Amicable
  • Empathy
  • Thanks

Once you're back in control, move forward into the crowd to trigger a cutscene.

Into the Fray

Recommended level: 31

You're on your own now. Run towards the marker, fighting off the three small groups of Imperials on your way, then leap off the edge. Pronto will grab you and you'll face a QTE - block and parry when prompted, then hit Triangle/Y to leap across to the Leviathan - asking or demanding her power both lead to a fight.

Need more help? Our Final Fantasy 15 guide and walkthrough can provide tips on main story, as well as the open-world's many quests and activities. Learning how to get AP fast, EXP fast and money or Gil fast will aid you in many optional dungeons and tombs - including how to open and explore their locked doors. There's also plenty of interesting side-quests, too, such as the Scraps of Mystery and Professors Protege frog locations. And if you want to get around easier, you can rent a Chocobo, learn the infinite sprint trick and later in the game, get the flying car Regalia Type F. There's also more to see and do with DLC, such as Episode Gladiolus and Episode Prompto.

The Trial of Leviathan

Recommended level: 31

The only way to damage the Leviathan at this point is to use Warp Strikes, so use the warp points around the area to keep out of the water, and when the creature rears its head fly in and make a few strikes before returning to safety. None of your weapons will do much damage, but we found swords did slightly better than anything else.

Falling in the water isn't immediately fatal but it does leave you exposed while you find your bearings, so try and stay dry if you can, and very slowly chip away at it.

Once you've managed to do sufficient damage a cutscene will play, and all looks lost. Don't worry, though, as you'll soon be back to the fray, and this time the odds are very much in your favour - you can more or less just hold the attack button down now to launch a barrage of ranged attacks at the beast, or get in close and personal to do a bit more damage.

Avoiding getting hit is still a good idea - it won't really do you any damage, but it does interrupt your flow. Once its health is close to zero you'll need to do another couple of blocks and parries to put it to rest. Phew! Next up is Chapter 12 and Fodina Caestino Mine with a train journey before hand.
