Five Nights at Freddy's World is an RPG spin-off
"It will not be a horror game."
Five Nights at Freddy's creator Scott Cawthon is reimagining his popular series of animatronic horrors as an RPG in Five Nights at Freddy's World.
"It will not be a horror game," Cawthon was quick to point out in his announcement on Steam. "But [rather] a role-playing game where you create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, phantom, and nightmare versions."
So why an RPG? "I wanted to use these characters in a new and fun way because they are so near and dear to my heart," Cawthon explained. "And I was excited to work on a type of game that I hadn't made in a long time."
The developer noted that Five Nights at Freddy's World will be "significantly larger than previous games in the series" and a free demo will be released as soon as it's ready. Cawthon was aiming to get that sorted by Halloween, but said that's now looking unlikely.
He was also adamant that there won't be fifth proper Five Nights title. "It's very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy's 5," stated Cawthon. "The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will not add to it."
This isn't Cawthon's first foray into RPGs. He previously made the very stylish and bizarre freebie The Desolate Hope, a sci-fi game about a sentient coffee pot in a derelict alien wasteland.
Five Nights at Freddy's World is in development for PC, Android and iOS.
