Fortnite adds tribute to failed rescue attempt
"The legacy of Chappadoodle lives on."
Last week, a clip of a Fortnite player's struggle to rescue another from the edge of the map emerged on Reddit. The victim, who goes by the name 'Chappadoodle', had become stuck on a ledge after falling from the edge of the map. Rescuer 'Muselk' went to extreme lengths to retrieve Chappadoodle, even driving a golf cart down to help the victim boost up when the build limit had been reached. Ultimately, this proved to be the pair's undoing, as Chappadoodle bravely threw themselves in the way of the cart to prevent Muselk from tumbling off the map. It was termed "the greatest rescue mission in Fortnite", but honestly, A Comedy of Errors would also have been suitable.
In any case, the story went viral, and even the official Fortnite account tweeted the video. But Epic has now gone above and beyond to add an in-game Easter egg to commemorate the rescue effort.
Epic added tribute to "The greatest rescue mission in Fortnite" from r/FortNiteBR
The tribute, which seems to have been added to the game in the latest patch, was spotted by Reddit user u/StoreBrandEnigma. The video shows it includes a gravestone and a set of rubber tyres - deeply ironic given this very item would have saved the victim of the initial rescue attempt.
As one mod put it, the tribute means "the legacy of Chappadoodle lives on", and now none will forget this epic tale. This isn't the first time Fortnite community shenanigans have been included in the game, and it likely won't be the last. What sort of strange Easter eggs can we expect in the future?
