Fortnite hits Android this summer
Mobile version will soon get a lot better.
Don't tell your kids, but Fortnite comes out on Android devices this summer.
Fortnite launched proper on iOS devices in early April after an invite-only beta period. On mobile, Fortnite is the same 100 PvP game from the PC and console versions, with the same map and gameplay.
Epic has worked to improve the mobile version since then (a customisable HUD went live earlier this week), and in a blog post, the developer outlined more improvements to come.
Chief among them is the addition of voice chat, which Epic confirmed is coming to the mobile version. You'll be able to chat with your teammates regardless of platform, too.
Epic said it's looking to make it easy to mute yourself, other players, or open up all communications with a simple tap. There will be button on the screen that lets you mute yourself, mute everyone in your party or go back to open-microphone.
One of the big problems with the current mobile version of Fortnite is it isn't particularly stable, and is prone to crashing. Epic said stability "is still one of our chief concerns", so hopefully things will improve as the updates continue.
Elsewhere, Epic said it's working on improving the gameplay and controls of the mobile version, including improving autorun and adding "better ways to fire". Epic didn't detail these, however.
Epic is also working to reduce the installation size of Fortnite on mobile (it's on the large size). Over the next few updates, Epic will compress the size down while maintaining performance, it promised. Overall patch sizes will get smaller, too. Oh, and you'll be able to download the content in the background.
And finally, game performance is getting some love. Epic said it's fixing code to increase graphics quality as well as adding a battery-saving mode, which will let you increase performance if you lower the graphics quality.
