Fortnite's new season hit by another delay

UPDATE: Live event and new season postponed again.

UPDATE 28/5/20: Fortnite has moved its upcoming live story event and new season clear of this weekend and next week, respectively.

In a blog post published last night, Epic Games announced it had postponed its "The Device" event until Monday 15th June, and Chapter 2 Season 3 to Wednesday 15th June.

"Recent events are a heavy reminder of ongoing injustices in society, from the denial of basic human rights to the impact of racism both overt and subtle against people of colour," Epic Games wrote. "We're acutely aware of the pain our friends, families, team members, players, and communities are experiencing.

"We believe in equality and justice, diversity and inclusion, and that these fundamentals are above politics.

"The team is eager to move Fortnite forward, but we need to balance the Season 3 launch with time for the team to focus on themselves, their families, and their communities."

"We know this delay comes on the heels of another one, and we appreciate your patience and understanding during these difficult times."

ORIGINAL STORY 4/6/20: Fortnite's new season has been pushed back again, this time by a further week. Chapter 2 Season 3 will now arrive on Thursday, 11th June.

That delay will also impact the game's upcoming story event, which Fortnite had begun counting down to in-game. Named "The Device", this one-time-only event will now take place a week later than previously scheduled: on Saturday, 6th June at 7pm UK time.

Chapter 2 Season 3, which has been widely tipped to introduce underwater gameplay, was originally set for the end of April. Perhaps unsurprisingly, considering the global move to remote development, Epic Games announced in April it would need more time to get things ready.

Today is the first time we've heard an official name for Fortnite's upcoming story event. The Device likely refers to the doomsday machine currently being built by spy agency boss Midas, visible from his room in-game. Leaks suggest the machine is being built in an attempt to rid Fortnite of its storm once and for all - something which would certainly shake things up.
