Friday Virtual Console assault

Another week flies by and three more retro-revellers make their way onto the Virtual Console.

First this week is Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island for the Mega Drive, otherwise known as Where The Series Went Wrong. It wasn't awful, though; you guide the little garden-dweller around an isometric map and take on some of the trickiest boss battles in the series, using some rather clunky controls. Flicky collection will cost you 800 points (GBP 5.60 / EUR 8).

Next up is spooky fighting game Samurai Ghost, where you play as the dead version of a skilled warrior and use your Spirit Weapons to kill all your enemies again. It sounds pointless but your nemesis Yoritomo is trying to get back to the real world which is a bad thing, so you and your powered-up sword have to step in. Join this TurboGrafx-16 fight for 600 points (GBP 4.20 / EUR 6).

Last but not least is Art of Fighting, a NeoGeo punch and kicker that paved the way for the King of Fighters series. You may also like to know that it is the first SNK game that illustrator Shinkiro was involved in, who would later make lots of friends for his pictures in both Fatal Fury and King of Fighters. This brawler will set you back 900 points (GBP 6.75 / EUR 9).
