A sequel to delightful iOS hit Game Dev Story is on its way, developer Kairosoft has announced, but you might have to wait a while.

Speaking in an interview with Touch Arcade, a spokesperson for the Japanese studio said, "We will be developing a sequel, but we are not planning on releasing it soon."

Going on past form, you'd best not hold your breath. The original PC version of Game Dev Story took 14 years to localise for Western audiences.

A sequel actually already exists – Game Dev Story 2 launched on PC in Japan in 2000 – but it's not clear if that's the template the developer will be working from. However, it did divulge a few further details of what it had planned.

"We are thinking of improving the game by adding elements of networking in the sequel, such as sales score rankings and sending employees to a friend's company, etc."

Before all that though, the studio is bringing "a CMS game like SimCity, where you touch to scroll, zoom in/ out, etc," to the App Store.

The English-language, iOS version of Game Dev Story launched earlier this year, winning a 9/10 from Eurogamer's Keza MacDonald.
