Game of Thrones baddie lends voice to Kickstarter hopeful The Mandate
UPDATE: Sci-fi RPG successfully funded, stretch goals laid out.
UPDATE: Indie role-player The Mandate has reached its $500,000 (£307k) Kickstarter funding total several days ahead of schedule.
The Mandate's developer, Perihelion, has already laid out a set of stretch goals for the sci-fi adventure should its total continue to rise much further.
At $550,000 all backers from $100 and above will receive a set of digital add-ons free of charge. Reaching the $600,000 mark will unlock away missions on planets. And at $700,000 the developers will build starbase boarding operations.
A fresh developer diary lies below.
ORIGINAL STORY: Leave him off your wedding invitations - Game of Thrones actor David Bradley (aka Walder Frey) has joined the cast of Kickstarter space opera The Mandate.
The sci-fi RPG mixes a Mass Effect-style story with space battle combat and is already well over half way towards its $500,000 Kickstarter goal.
Bradley will play the major character of Lord High Admiral Suvarov, a descendant of the Russian Tsars. The Mandate's writing team have crafted 1500 years of alternate history to discover, which sees the Romanov family's distant offspring now ruling space.
You'll be able to interact with your crew for quests and story, fight space battles, storm enemy ships and explore a galaxy "that reacts to your choices". Very BioWare, you might think - but it's all being built by a small team using Unity.
"I'm delighted to be working with the team at Perihelion Interactive to breathe life into the character of Suvarov," Bradley said. "The Mandate is my first foray into the world of videogames, and I'm fascinated to see how my vocal performance is realised within the game."
Bradley's career stretches back over 40 years of film and TV, with his most recent work including the Harry Potter movies, Simon Pegg film The World's End, ITV murder mystery series Broadchurch, and the starring role in this week's Doctor Who drama An Adventure in Space and Time.
The trailer below features Bradley as narrator as he describes life in space, and the losses he's faced as an admiral:
