Epic boss Mark Rein has posted on the Gears of War forums detailing the next patch for Gears of War 2, which we can expect this month.

"We don’t have an exact date for it but all indicators are it will go live within January," Rein said.

Most of the update is focused on bug and exploit fixes for the online multiplayer. Invisible shields, meleeing through walls, infinite Lancer ammo and other exploits will be things of the past, and the shotgun will be more reliable in high-latency matches.

There are also going to be some tweaks to the rulset: for example, the penalties for quitting matches early will be increased and you'll have better protection from grenade and chainsaw attacks when respawning.

Some new achievements for DLC (presumable December's map pack) are being added, and there will be improvements to achievement progress notifiers.
