Microsoft is adding a Games on Demand digital download service to Games for Windows Live.

As of 15th December, GfW users will be able to buy and download games direct. They'll also be able to reinstall and play games wherever they are. "With Games on Demand we didn’t just want to create a cut-and-paste version of existing digital distribution services," said Microsoft's Mike Ybarra.

"We challenged ourselves to deliver an integrated platform that takes full advantage of the unique capabilities offered by the LIVE service. Our goal has always been to create a seamless online gaming experience for the Windows community and Games on Demand is a great step toward that end." The launch line-up will include Resident Evil 5, Red Faction: Guerrilla and Battlestations: Pacific. There will also be Live-enabled versions of World of Goo and Osmos. Games can be purchased using a credit card or Microsoft Points.

The GfW Live client can be downloaded via gamesforwindows.com.
