How the Fusion Coil works in Halo Infinite explained

The Fusion Coil isn't new to the Halo universe, but it does take a more prominent role in Halo Infinite.

Now, instead of being stationary, you can pick Fusion Coils up from the ground. As you are imagining, yes, this means you can throw them at enemies.

This is extremely useful against other Spartans, as it's most likely a guaranteed kill (depending on whether or not they're using shields or happen to be just far enough from the explosion upon impact).

Perhaps more enticing is the Fusion Coil potential against vehicles. Opposed to the efforts demanded to take these down with just regular weapons, a perfectly-timed Fusion Coil can put a stop to them without a flinch.

Of course, since this is a dangerous explosive, any bullet impact that it receives will trigger the explosion - be careful not to hold it for too long to avoid this!

How to complete the Fusion Frenzy challenge

In order to complete the Fusion Frenzy challenge in Halo Infinite, you must kill an enemy Spartan using a Fusion Coil. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, there are a couple things to know beforehand.

Fusion Coils aren't exactly an ever-present item in maps. In fact, not every map has them - this is subject to change in the future of course, but if you're only jumping into Quick Play, it may take you a long while to complete the challenge.

Steady... steady...

For this particular challenge, we recommend to play Big Team Battle matches primarily. This will highly increase your chances of coming across a Fusion Coil.

That being said, some of the maps overlap between Big Team Battle and Quick Play. At the moment it's not possible to choose an specific map or multiplayer mode, so this will be random. But at the very least you'll know whether to look for them or not.

You can find Fusion Coils in the following maps:

  • Launch Site (both Big Team Battle and Quick Play)
  • Highpower (Big Team Battle)
  • Deadlock (Big Team Battle)
  • Fragmentation (Big Team Battle)

As for broad locations, it depends on the map. Launch Site has Fusion Coils in various corners of the map, and it's likely that you won't go through a corridor without seeing one of them. Keep an eye out for the item in open areas as well, especially as an opportunity to take down enemy vehicles.

In both Highpower and Fragmentation it's normal to find Fusion Coils either near the respawn point (your base if you're playing Capture the Flag) or close to weapon stations out in the wild.

Once you've gotten yourself your hands on one, all you have to do is time the throw just right to hit an enemy. It's best to do so as soon as you see them coming towards you. If you want to secure the challenge without thinking of the consequences for the match's score, you can just get super close to an enemy Spartan and throw Fusion Coil without aiming too much. You may get caught in the explosion, but hey, the challenge will be completed.

Fusion Coils can be elusive, so don't worry if you don't see them on your first trip around the map. They will eventually respawn, and in the worst case scenario, there is always the next match.
