Hearthstone: Naxxramas strategy guide and walkthrough
Our guide to Hearthstone's first expansion, with boss guides and strategies galore.
In the four months since the official release of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Blizzard has been busy preparing the first content update for the game. Titled Curse of Naxxramas, this new expansion focuses on the single-player component of Hearthstone, giving players the opportunity to battle against the bosses of World of Warcraft's Naxxramas raid. When the expansion arrives, it'll initially consist of just a single wing of the famous dungeon, but a new wing will be released each week until all five are available to play.
We've started our guide to the new content with a quick overview of what's on offer - the bosses, the rewards, the cost of playing, and so on. After that, we'll be regularly updating this article with strategies to help you beat each wing, as and when they're released (and as soon as we've worked out how to beat them!)
A little earlier this year we also created a new player guide to help you get started with each of Hearthstone's Heroes, and how to rise up the ranks using only the free basic cards provided. To help you get around all of our guide content for the game, we've included links to this earlier content at the bottom of the page, so you can get accustomed to each Hero's playstyle before tackling one of Naxxramas' special Hero-specific challenges.

Beginner's guide
Hearthstone - beginner's guide, classes, Hero Powers, card types, game modes
Before looking at individual classes and improving your play, we've put together a quick look at the fundamentals of playing Hearthstone. As well as outlining the basics of the game, we've got all the information you need to know about the different modes available, and how to get off to the best start.
Hearthstone - Druid, Swipe, Druid of the Claw, Healing Touch, Keeper of the Grove
It can take a little while to get used to the comparatively slower pace of the Druid, but it's a satisfying playstyle if you can manage to see off your opponent's early threats, and ease your way into the late-game. We'll get you up to speed with the most important cards in the Druid's arsenal, and show you a great free deck to get started with.
Hearthstone - Hunter, Eaglehorn Bow, Unleash the Hounds, Kill Command, Starving Buzzard
Thanks to the Hunter's precision Hero ability, it's possible to whittle an opponent's health down frighteningly fast. Even if it's not a class you plan on playing much, it's well worth taking the time to understand what makes the Hunter so powerful. We've got the lowdown on this Hero's key cards, and have put together a free deck you can experiment with.
Hearthstone - Mage, Flamestrike, Polymorph, Fireball, Water Elemental, Mage secrets
The Mage has some of the best removal spells available in Hearthstone, and it's a great class to play if you enjoy dictating the tempo of a match. It's important that you assess your opponent's threats correctly though, so you don't needlessly throw away your most powerful spells. Our guide to the Mage will get you up to speed quickly, and we've got a powerful free deck you can mess around with too.
Hearthstone - Paladin, Consecration, Truesilver Champion, Blessing of Kings, secrets
The Paladin is one of a handful of Heroes that can make use of Hearthstone's Secret cards, and it's essential that you learn how to both play them correctly, and trigger them efficiently if you're on the other side of the board. We've got a guide to the most popular cards available to the Paladin, and a basic deck that will ease you into making the most of this versatile character.
Hearthstone - Priest, Northshire Cleric, Thoughtsteal, Shadow Word, Mind Control
The Priest remains one of the most under-represented Heroes in Hearthstone's rankings, but it's important to understand where its strengths and weaknesses lie. While some of the Priest's most useful cards will be out of reach of newcomers, we were surprised at how high we were able to rank using our entirely free-to-play deck that anyone can pick up and play.
Hearthstone - Rogue, Eviscerate, Shiv, Deadly Poison, SI:7 Agent, Assassinate
The Rogue makes great use of a combo system that involves playing multiple cards correctly. As a result, it can be hard to get to grips with if you're completely new to the game. Nevertheless, it's one of the most popular Heroes at the time of publishing, and so it pays to be prepared when you meet this character in combat. Our guide will help you spot some of the common tools of the trade, and we've also got a free deck you can use to get a feel for the Hero in action.
Hearthstone - Shaman, Windfury, Totems, Lightning Storm, Hex, Stormforged Axe
If you want to avoid spending money on Hearthstone altogether, the Shaman doesn't have the most powerful starting cards in its arsenal, and the Hero's unique Overload system can take a little getting used to. With that said, you can rank surprisingly high if you know what you're doing, and we've got a class guide and free deck that will help you master the Shaman in no time.
Hearthstone - Warlock, Soulfire, Hellfire, Blood Imp, Flame Imp, zoo
If you like to play by the seat of your pants, the Warlock's a great choice thanks to its Hero power that allows you to draw more cards from your deck at a price - specifically, your precious health points. We've based our free deck on the very popular "zoo" format, and we'll also show you how to respond when you're on the wrong side of this shadowy figure.
Hearthstone - Warrior, weapons, Fiery War Axe, Heroic Strike, Mortal Strike, Gorehowl
The Warrior's Hero power allows it to effectively increase its health pool, making it a very good choice for those who like to take charge of a match's pace. We'll walk you through some of the most popular cards you'll encounter when playing against this beast, and detail a free-to-play deck you can experiment with yourself.
Hearthstone - gold farming, quests, rewards, cap, achievements
If you want to get your hands on lots of new cards without spending any money, you're going to need to get hold of lots of Gold and lots of crafting dust. We'll show you how to make plenty of cash in your first few days with the game, and then keep the money rolling in as you gain experience.
Hearthstone - tips, tricks, weapons guide, minion trades, board control, spells
Once you've got to grips with the basics of Hearthstone, we've got half a dozen or so tips that will improve your success rate rapidly. Make practising these core principles of efficient play a part of every battle, and you'll be ranking up there with the best of them in no time.
