Hearthstone: Rastakhan's Rumble guide
The best decks and all the new content for the new expansion.
Ready or not, another Hearthstone expansion arrives just a week from now.
This time around it's the turn of the Troll tribe to have their moment in the spotlight, and the Rastakhan's Rumble set will add another 135 thematically-pleasing cards to the game, a new Overkill keyword, and a new single-player mode a little after launch.
What should you expect from all this though? In our guide to Rastakhan's Rumble, we've got an overview of all the key features, along with an explanation of how they'll all work in practise.
At launch, our friends at sister-site Metabomb will also be producing a huge number of deck guides, and we'll make sure they're all added in here so you can jump straight in to the latest meta developments.
UPDATE - 10th December 2018: Although we're a long way from a settled meta right now, we've been able to roughly rank decks under each hero category in the latest update. If you want to track the latest meta developments, Metabomb have a regularly updated guide to the best Rastakhan's Rumble decks.
Rastakhan's Rumble: Overview
Here's the basics of what to expect when the new set arrives:
- Rastakhan's Rumble will be released on Tuesday 4th December 2018.
- There are 135 new cards in the set, with the usual distribution between hero-specific cards and neutral cards that all heroes can make use of.
- A new keyword called Overkill is also being added with the next expansion. Do more damage to a minion than is required to destroy it, and you'll cause a bonus, beneficial effect to be triggered.
- The roguelike single-player content from The Witchwood returns! Choose a team to represent in Rumble Run, then head through a series of increasingly tricky boss challenges, expanding your deck as you go.

Rastakhan's Rumble: New Cards
Those 135 new cards are built up of the usual assortment of neutral and hero-specific Common, Rare, Epic and Legendary cards, but Rastakhan's Rumble also introduces a few new card types as well:
- Spirits - Each hero is getting a low-cost 0 / 3 Spirit minion which has stealth for one turn, which means it can't be targeted directly by the other player right away. These Spirits provide special buffs for as long as they're out in play.
- Loas - Thematically, each card is also getting something known as a Loa Legendary. These are just like regular Legendaries, but are specifically designed to provide a big impact in the late-game.
- Champions - Each hero also gets a Champion Legendary which is designed to support their Loa counterpart.
Rastakhan's Rumble: New Overkill Keyword
Some of the new cards come with a new keyword called Overkill.
The way this works is pretty simple. If you do more damage to an enemy minion than is required to kill it, the “splash damage” is converted into a bonus effect.
The Hunter gets an Overkill spell that does three points of damage and rewards a 5 / 5 minion if the keyword is triggered, for example. The Warrior gets to swing a weapon again if the first target was taken out with any extra damage to spare.
Rastakhan's Rumble: New Single Player Content
If you weren't a fan of the puzzles in The Boomsday Project, you might be pleased to learn that something a little more like The Witchwood's Monster Hunt is arriving with Rastakhan's Rumble.
Called Rumble Run, this mode will see you first of all picking a team to represent. You'll then have to work your way through a series of boss encounters, adding new spells and minions to your deck as you go.
Not an awful lot of detail has been revealed about Rumble Run so far, but we do know that it will arrive around one week after the launch of the new cards, on Thursday 13th December.
