Here's a teaser for The Bard's Tale 4
The World of Caith.
Hot on the heels of the announcement of Wasteland 3, inXile has released a teaser video for one of the other games it has in the works: The Bard's Tale 4.
Last year's The Bard's Tale 4 Kickstarter was a success, comfortably reaching its $1.25m goal with the best part of a month to spare.
The game is a sequel to Interplay's Gaelic-flavoured The Bard's Tale trilogy, a series of fantasy dungeon crawlers that began life in 1985.
inXile chief Brian Fargo previously told Eurogamer the plan for 4 is to return to Skara Brae for a "true dungeon-crawling sequel".
The video, below, gives us an idea of what the game will look like. inXile used the Unity game engine to build Wasteland 2 and Torment (and it'll use the latest version of Unity to build Wasteland 3), but it's using Epic's Unreal Engine 4 for The Bard's Tale 4.
Here's the official blurb:
The developer is using photogrammetry to create in-game 3D objects from photos of architecture, taken in Scotland during a research trip. Photogrammetry is the graphics technique used to map real textures, as seen in The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
It's a busy time for inXile, which is wrapping up work on Torment: Tides of Numenera. The bulk of the team behind Torment will move on to Wasteland 3. The Bard's Tale 4 is being developed by inXile's satellite studio in New Orleans.
