Epic's sharp, shiny new iOS RPG Infinity Blade has unseated the all-conquering Angry Birds at the top of the App Store charts.

The Unreal Engine-powered Punch-Out/Demon's Souls hybrid, developed by the team behind Xbox Live Arcade smash Shadow Complex, is number one in both Top Paid Apps and Top Grossing Apps.

Not bad, considering it's been on sale for less than 24 hours.

Earlier this year creative director Donald Mustard told Eurogamer, "I love playing Angry Birds and Indie Dev Story but I also love playing something like Infinity Blade. I'm looking for something like that as a gamer. I hope I'm not alone in that.

"It's such a different marketplace. It really is like the Wild West of gaming – I don't know that anybody has that figured out right now."

Infinity Blade is available now for iPhone 3GS and above, priced £3.49.
