Insomniac's Slow Down, Bull is out next week on Steam.
Half the proceeds go to charity.
Ratchet & Clank and Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games is releasing its first PC game, Slow Down, Bull, on Steam 20th April.
Priced at a mere $5.99 (so about £4), Slow Down, Bull is a top-down autorunning game of sorts about controlling a bull where your main interaction is pulling its figurative reigns. However, if you're too micromanaging of your steer, he'll get angry and go on a rampage, thus destroying all the decorations he's trying to collect to advance in his career as an artist. Did I mention he's a painter?
This small-scale project is an experimental shift for the studio that's typically operated in the triple A space. The game began with a prototype by designer Lisa Brown, who had lots of interesting ideas that never really fit into the larger projects the studio was working on. So it decided to let her make her own game. Brown then came up with the notion of "What if pressing a button made the action *stop* rather than making it go?"
Insomniac's chief creative officer Brian Hastings said in a blog post that the studio realised after only a day of prototyping that Brown was onto something with this. After several months and bolstering Brown's team to five, Slow Down, Bull was born.
Slow Down, Bull also marks Insomniac's partnership with Starlight Children's Foundation, a charity that helps kids around the world by doing things like providing mobile entertainment centers at children's hospitals. Half of Insomniac's proceeds from Slow Down, Bull will go to this foundation.
You can see some early prototype footage of Slow Down, Bull from last Halloween on Twitch.
