Former Team Ninja top ninja Tomonobu Itagaki has confirmed that he's working on a new game with a studio made up of his former colleagues and other handpicked game developers.

"Game making is my true calling. I'm aware that I have fans all around the world waiting for me. The rest I leave up to your imagination," Itagaki told 1UP after former Ninja Gaiden art director Hiroaki Matsui said the team had been working on a new game engine for around a year.

There's no word on anything about it really, even platforms. "I'm trying to be flexible in that respect, but I do feel that the Xbox 360 still has a lot of potential that I haven't been able to play with yet," Itagaki said.

The studio hasn't announced its official name yet, but the devs joked that it would be called "Tokyo Vikings". Elsewhere, Itagaki laughed off suggestions that he's doing another fighting game. "It'd be more fun if we made something new, right?"

As for when we'll hear about it, it's "too early" for anything at E3 in Los Angeles next week (although Itagaki is going). "I feel it's my duty to make the best game possible to deliver to my fans. So I don't intend to stay out of the game for too long," he said.
