Jagex gives Jon Hare top job
Sensible Soccer, now RuneScape.
Jon Hare and his hair have been appointed head of publishing at Jagex, which makes web-based MMO RuneScape, which makes lots and lots of money.
Herr Hare has videogame experience spanning 24 years, during which he has developed for over 20 platforms and made over 30 games - the most famous ones being Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder. His new role has him overseeing publishing at Jagex, and helping make online portal FunOrb a bit better.
Hare is "really excited" to join a "traditional and very British" company like Jagex. "I feel very at home here," he said in a statement. Jagex, for its part, said Hare will be playing a "very hands-on role" in getting the publisher's games up to scratch.
Jagex Games is the largest independent games developer and publisher in the UK, by the way, and employs over 400 staff across two studios in Cambridge. We didn't know that.
RuneScape, claims the Guinness Book of Records, is the world's most popular free-to-play MMO with over 8.5 million active accounts. The online world also had a massive graphical overhaul last summer, which prompted a closer Eurogamer inspection. Head over to our RuneScape review to find out more.
