Kickstarter funding drive for Leisure Suit Larry remake
Creator Al Lowe on board for sleazy adventure game revival.
And so the Kickstarter bandwagon rolls on. The next project to get the crowdsourcing treatment is a mooted remake of classic 1987 Sierra adventure game Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards.
The game's original development team - Al Lowe, Josh Mandel, Sabine Duvall, and Leslie Balfour - has reunited and joined forces with Replay Games. Collectively, they want $500,000 to fund a full re-imagining of the original for PC and tablets.
It'll be built from scratch with "a modern point-and-click/touchscreen interface", "updated, ultra-high res graphics" and "fully voiced characters".
If it's funded and the release proves successful, the plan is to go ahead and remake the rest of the series too.
Any money raised beyond its $500,000 target will be reinvested in the game and used to fund additional language tracks and, potentially, a release on other platforms.
The project's Kickstarter page shows some work-in-progress concept art and a promo clip offering a glimpse of how the game might look in action.
"We get all of your fan mail everyday and reply to as much of it as we possibly can," reads the project's Kickstarter page.
"This is what drove us to create this Kickstarter campaign. Had we taken this idea to a publisher, they would've turned us down cold since they think adventure games are dead."
Replay's HD remake was actually first announced back in October last year, but it seems it needs some additional financial help to get it off the ground.
The innuendo-riddled series, which follows the exploits of titular sleaze Larry as he tries to seduce his way around the globe, was last on our screens back in 2009, with the execrable Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.
