Killer Instinct Season 2 details emerge
Including a resolution bump to 900p.
A series of new details have emerged regarding Killer Instinct's second season, which is launching on Xbox One on 15th October.
As reported on the Xbox News Wire, developer Iron Galaxy's follow-up to Double Helix's fighting game reboot will introduce eight new characters in a revolving rotation of free-to-play fighters. The cast includes returning Killer Instinct cast members like TJ Combo and Maya along with robot dinosaur Riptor and man-on-fire Cinder. There will also be new characters including "an ancient Babylonian sorcerer, an avenging ghost, [and] a battle-hardened war golem," in addition to a completely unannounced fighter.
Beyond adding new fighters, Iron Galaxy is rebalancing the cast of Season One, improving the interface to allow faster character selection and stat tracking, and adding a new progression system allowing players to level up individual characters and tailor their appearance.
There will also be an all new new combo system that allows players to juggle their opponents in the air while allowing the victim a chance to escape with all new "Air Breakers" and "Air Counter-Breakers".
Furthermore, this second season will see a resolution bump from 720p to 900p, according to fighting game championship CEO Gaming's creator Alex Jebailey on Twitter.
Killer Instinct's second season will launch with TJ Combo as a free playable character, while Maya will be available to buy for £3.99 / €4.99 / $4.99.
Additionally you can buy the Combo Breaker Pack that comes with all eight characters for £16.99 / €19.99 / $19.99, or the Killer Instinct: Season 2 - Ultra Edition that comes with the same along with 16 accessory sets, eight exclusive costumes, and Killer Instinct 2 Classic.
