Kingdom Hearts 3 epilogue and secret ending are free launch week DLC
Oh, boy.
Kingdom Hearts 3's epilogue and secret ending are free launch week DLC, Square Enix has confirmed.
It was expected both videos, which Kingdom Hearts chief Tetsuya Nomura has said are the biggest spoilers in the game, would release after the game itself following a statement issued by the director after Kingdom Hearts 3 leaked onto the internet last month.
Outlining the schedule for updates, Square Enix said on Tuesday, 29th January, patch 1.01 makes several data fixes as well as adds the Memory Archive videos. (This is a digest of the Kingdom Hearts story in the series up to this point, but if you can't wait for it, be sure to check out the video below, from Eurogamer's former video producer Bendix.) The Memory Archive option will be added to the game's title menu and can be viewed at any time.
Then, on Wednesday, 30th January, the epilogue video will be added to the game, but you'll need to have completed Kingdom Hearts 3 and seen the ending to view it.
On Thursday, 31st January, the mysterious "secret" video will be added to the game. Square Enix said you'll need to have seen the ending "as well as fulfilled certain criteria during play" to view it. It's worth noting this criteria varies depending on the difficulty level selected.
What are the epilogue and secret movie about, exactly? All Square Enix will say is they are videos "that will enhance players' enjoyment of the world of Kingdom Hearts".
While you'll obviously need an internet connection to download these updates, the main game lets players watch the ending without the need for an internet connection.
Kingdom Hearts 3 fans have spent a month trying to avoid spoilers after the game was leaked over a month before its official release date.
While gameplay videos of the full version of the game are on the internet, the epilogue and secret ending have so far remained closely guarded.
