Digital Foundry | Crash Bandicoot on PS4: retro gameplay meets state-of-the-art visuals
Digital Foundry presents comprehensive PS4, Pro and original PlayStation analysis.
The original Crash Bandicoot started development in 1994, and in the eyes of its original developers - Naughty Dog's Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin - it would be the very first 3D platform game. The concept was simple - summed up its creators as 'Sonic's Ass' - a 90 degree rotation of a 2D playfield into a rolling 3D platforming world. Gavin and Rubin would team up with others, including a certain Mark Cerny, and the original Crash Bandicoot trilogy on PS1 went on to break technical boundaries and sell millions. Still revered by many, today we can replay those games on PlayStation 4, with completely rebuilt, yet still authentic, remakes of those original games.

Interview | What's Phil Harrison up to these days?
On PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, E3 press conferences and virtual reality.
Phil Harrison sees things from a special perspective, not because he's as tall as an NBA basketball player, but because he's had high-up jobs at both PlayStation and Xbox. He was with Sony for 15 years, fronted conferences, fronted PlayStation for goodness sake - he's a huge part of PlayStation history. He was at Microsoft for a blink of an eye by comparison - only three years - but in no less of a key role: leader of Xbox in Europe. He's worked on both sides of the fence.

Feature | Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a world at war with itself
Treyarch's next generation debut is a chronically uneven, cleverly conflicted shooter.
Editor's note: This is an early impressions piece, based upon a review event where we were able to play through Black Op 3's campaign. We'll have our full review, which will take into consideration the multiplayer and a weekend spent playing Black Ops 3 on live servers, early next week.

Video | Watch: Johnny cooks a chicken dinner from PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
PUBG Grub.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is quickly becoming a favourite among the Eurogamer video team. While we're hardly what you'd call pro players, there's still something undeniably fun about running around the game map, frantically gathering weapons in a bid to stay alive. Even if you die in the opening minutes, there's something about Battlegrounds that lends itself well to stories. Like the time I got confused and punched Chris to death, for instance - or the time we actually managed to win, against all odds.

Feature | How PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds emerged from the messy history of survival shooters
Seize the DayZ.
After 20-something hours of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, my Steam recommendations are a wasteland. I've sunk a meaningful amount of time into a game with the words 'early access', 'survival', and 'shooter' in its tag cloud, and Valve's algorithm knows something about those. The earliest manifestations of that 'what if DayZ but dinosaurs' phenomena occupy three slots in a row in my 'you may also like' queue; an age gate indicates that we've arrived in 'what if DayZ but penises'. Zombies fill the gaps.

Interview | Sega defends Sega Forever launch after fan outcry
'Within mobile there's a lot of fragmentation.'
Last week, Sega announced it was going to bring a selection of its back catalogue to mobile - and possibly beyond - with Sega Forever, a service that would allow people to play classic games for free. It was almost too good to be true, and it turns out it kind of was - the emulation was found to be sub-par, with Digital Foundry's John Linneman warning players away from the games. They weren't the only issues present, with owners of older versions of the games experiencing new problems while developers Libretro - who are behind RetroArch, an emulator that's widely held to be superior to the one powering Sega Forever - revealing it had walked away from a deal. With this in mind, we spoke to Sega Networks' chief marketing officer Mike Evans - a key figure behind Sega Forever - to see what the future holds for the service.

Feature | Episode Prompto is Final Fantasy 15 in a nutshell, for better and for worse
Command Prompto.
I ended up falling for Final Fantasy 15 in quite a big way when it finally released late last November, but good lord did it have more than its fair share of faults. A plot pockmarked with holes, a battle system that lacked some of the depth and elegance of the series' high-point and an open world that was a little threadbare - it was, if you looked at it from some angles, a bit of a shambles. But what heart it had. I struggle to think of another big budget game - especially one with such a tortured history - delivered with such enthusiasm, character and winning warmth.
