  2. The Tomorrow Children: A riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma

If you judge a game by the questions it makes you ask when you're playing - and I appreciate that nobody actually judges a game like this - then The Tomorrow Children is quite something. "Why do I need a house?" That was an early question. "How do I get money?" "Why do I need money?" Somebody (and, sadly, I think that somebody was me) was having a strange kind of awakening.

Digital Foundry | Watch: Digital Foundry discusses PlayStation 4 Pro

Live stream and video media vs the real life experience.

The day after the reveal of the PlayStation 4 Pro, it's been fascinating to check in with the Digital Foundry team to get their reactions to the new hardware. As I suspected, Sony faces a real challenge here in communicating the advantages the PS4 Pro offers. What I saw was a nigh-on pristine, high resolution presentation paired with game-changing HDR technology. What the team - and presumably everyone else - saw was... well, very little improvement over the existing PlayStation 4.

  12. Digital Foundry: Hands-on with the CUH-2000 PS4 Slim

Digital Foundry | Digital Foundry: Hands-on with the CUH-2000 PS4 Slim

First impressions: better than the existing PS4 in almost every way.

Sony's PlayStation 4 'slim' revision - codenamed CUH-2000 - follows in a fine tradition of excellent quality second-gen Sony hardware. The new console is significantly more power efficient, it generates less heat and it is palpably quieter. And as for its divisive looks? Let's just say that the photos seen thus far do not do this product justice. With one notable exception, there's no sense that Sony was fighting to bring this product in at a specific budget. You still feel like you're getting your money's worth: it looks and feels solid, and build quality is on par with the existing models.

  13. Digital Foundry: Three hours with PlayStation 4 Pro

Digital Foundry | Digital Foundry: Three hours with PlayStation 4 Pro

Has Sony really delivered a cutting-edge console worthy of 4K display technology?

I went into the PlayStation Meeting today as a sceptic, believing that the hardware may not be up to the task of powering a 4K display. The good news is that several hours later, I emerged from the event impressed with the quality of the experience and respectful of the wizardry utilised to make this GPU punch above its weight. However, fundamentally, there's little doubt that PlayStation 4 Pro is going to be a tough sell. Traditional gaming media simply can't capture and communicate the quality of the imagery I saw today, as there's no real way to showcase HDR meaningfully. And this is actually a key component of the PlayStation 4 Pro experience. 4K is impressive and a worthy upgrade in its own right, but HDR takes it to the next level.

  23. Redout is the next-gen WipEout you've been waiting for

It's hard to whine too much about the fall of the futuristic racer when there's ample evidence pointing towards the genre's rude health right now. Godfathers of the form, WipEout creator Studio Liverpool, may be no more, but plenty of imitators have emerged in its wake, from neat twists on the formula such as Distance's horror-tinged racing or Fast Racing Neo's hard edges. Redout, which has recently launched on Steam, stands out as being the most fastidious student of the style, so it's no wonder people are falling so readily in love. There have been games inspired by WipEout in recent years, but none of them have been quite so much like that iconic PlayStation series as this.
