  5. Ultimate Chicken Horse is an early frontrunner for game of 2016

Ultimate Chicken Horse is not a dancing game, but it did make me dance. I am not alone in this. At the end of each preposterous challenge your character - be it a chicken, horse, raccoon, lamb or gecko - will get jiggy with it, should they reach their goal. This doesn't happen very often, so it's worth celebrating. The papercraft aesthetic may resemble a cutesy South Park at a glance, but it's so expressive that each animal avatar has their own unique version of waving their hooves/paws/talons in the air like they just don't care. I've yet to play a match of Ultimate Chicken Horse where somebody doesn't emulate their avatar's gloating behaviour.

  18. Watch: Overwatch is different - and really, really good

I've fallen pretty hard for Overwatch. Blizzard's latest venture into the multiplayer FPS genre isn't set to launch until the spring of next year, but we've already been mucking around in the game's closed beta for almost a month. Despite only offering a couple of different game modes (three if you count the 'hybrid' maps), it still feels like this game is bursting with variety. That's largely thanks to an impressive roster of characters - we're looking at 21 heroes since Blizzcon - that all manage to offer very different playstyles.

  24. Project X Zone 2 review

    Review | Project X Zone 2 review

    Fanned out.

It's hard to describe Project X Zone 2 without using the phrase "fan service." Because that's exactly what it is. A decadent celebration of crossovers, rife with in-jokes, sometimes inappropriate humour, and the kind of quasi-innocent and often contentious sauciness that permeates many anime. As a game, it's a relatively light offering, mashing the feel of strategy RPGs with side-scrolling beat 'em ups. But it's fun in the same way that pizza is great: a terrific indulgence that works so long as you like cheese.

  26. Should you upgrade Xbox One with an SSD?

Feature | Should you upgrade Xbox One with an SSD?

Loading times are getting out of hand - can solid-state storage reduce waits on Microsoft's console?

Having seen the worthwhile results of SSD and hybrid drive upgrades on PlayStation 4, it's now Xbox One's turn in the test seat. With its stock 5,400rpm drive turning in loading times of well over a minute in certain titles - such as Just Cause 3 and Grand Theft Auto 5 - Microsoft's machine thankfully has plenty of options to speed up the downtime. One of its trump cards is the ability to connect to any external drive via USB 3.0, making the upgrade path much more fluid than it is on PS4. That is, provided you have one specific tool for the job.
