Different times eh.
It's been a funny few years for Epic Games. A generation ago it was firing on all cylinders: Gears of War struck like a thunderbolt in 2006, followed by everyone and their dog licensing Unreal Engine 3. Leaked images of Rockstar's spy game Agent appear
Once a PS3 exclusive, now simply MIA.
A few new screenshots and pieces of art from Rockstar's mysterious spy game Agent have appeared. They come from an artist who worked on the game in 2009/2010, which means the assets old and not indicative of any renewed development on the project, but they do at least confirm that some meaningful work was originally carried out. Reddit dug them up and also linked to a similar batch of Agent assets excavated in 2011. I've embedded a few of the most screenshot-looking shots here.

Digital Foundry | Apple iPhone 6S review
You've got the 3D touch.
Apple followers have had over 12 months to become accustomed to the larger 4.7-inch screen of the iPhone 6, but there are still some who have fought the desire to upgrade because they genuinely prefer the smaller 4-inch screen of the 5S. Those same people will no doubt be anxiously gazing at the freshly-released 6S and feeling their resolve slowly weakening - and with good reason. Apple's latest handset might be larger than some long-time customers are used to (best not to mention the iPhone 6S Plus), but - as Android followers have known for quite some time - it proves that bigger is indeed better. Not only that, but the traditional bi-yearly 'S' enhancement supplies some notable improvements over 2014's iPhone 6, making the upgrade process even easier to stomach.

Feature | System Shock 2 still stands as Irrational's finest work
Immortal machine.
2007's BioShock blew everyone away with its momentous second-act twist. The scene in which you finally encounter Andrew Ryan, your body buzzing with adrenaline after the rigmarole you've gone through to find this megalomaniac, only to be delivered the debilitating narrative gut-punch that you've been guided like a puppet the entire time, is often considered one of gaming's greatest feats of storytelling. In fact, so successful is this scene that it ends up hurting the remainder of the game. The flurry of half-baked ideas that follow - your plasmids don't work, you're sort of a Big Daddy - fail to rebuild the momentum which leads up to that clarifying moment.

Feature | Keith Stuart on violence in crime fiction and video games
Oof.
In 2007, game developer Clint Hocking wrote a hugely influential essay about the problem with video games. Entitled Ludonarrative Dissonance in Bioshock, the article looked at Irrational's classic shooter and saw in it a terrible contradiction. While the interactive (or 'ludic') sections of the game require the player to be selfish and powerful, the story sequences seek to cast your character as a selfless aid to the revolutionary leader, Atlas. As Hocking wrote, "By throwing the narrative and ludic elements of the work into opposition, the game seems to openly mock the player for having believed in the fiction of the game at all." Openly mocking the player is... not considered good form.
