Feature | Is Hardware: Rivals the new Rocket League?
No.
Hardware: Rivals, currently in beta on PS4, entered my consciousness recently not so much with a fanfare but with a low, persistent rumble. The majority of the people I've spoken to so far about Sony's drivey-shooty title have been more than happy to play the soothsayer, each saying the same thing; this game might be onto something special. This, they say reverentially, could be the next Rocket League.

Chaos Reborn leaves Early Access at the end of the month
Can you (dis)believe it?
When the man that made XCOM asks you to fund a Kickstarter campaign, you listen. It's been more than a year and a half since Julian Gollop raised $210,854 to remake Chaos: The Battle of Wizards and from the time I've spent with the game in Early Access, I'd say he's done a pretty fine job. It's now almost time to see the full release, with version 1.0 planned for the 26th October.

Video | Watch: Lumo is nostalgic and lovely
Wizbit.
The other day, I experienced a rather unwelcome reminder of my own mortality; I found out that I was the oldest member of Eurogamer's video team by oh, about 10 years. Leaving aside from the whole 'getting closer to dying' thing though, being a decade older than the rest of my colleagues does have a few advantages, the main one being I've had the time to experience way more games than the rest of those baby-faced nerds (I'm not bitter, honest).

Feature | Storytelling in Mankind Divided: Choice, consequence and cynicism
How to build a future that falls apart.
"The future is the same, but different." It's a phrase I've heard oft repeated and yet never attributed. Whatever its origin, it suits Eidos Montréal's vision for Mankind Divided very well indeed. Not only do the team want to continue to serve us their very particular flavour or cyberpunk cynicism, showing a world where technology has created as many problems as it has solved, they also don't want to alienate players who so enjoyed Human Revolution. "You don't have to reinvent the wheel every time," is producer Olivier Proulx's philosophy.

Feature | Metal Gear Online needs major work
Despite bugs, there's fun to be had, but will Konami stick with it?
By many accounts, Metal Gear Solid 5 is unfinished. A final mission that actually brought closure to the game's convoluted plot was left on the cutting room floor, and many players felt that the entirety of chapter two, when compared to the confident execution of chapter one, seemed like a rush job. Metal Gear Online feels a bit like that too.

Halo 5's campaign lasts 8-12 hours - if played on normal
Multiplayer update out before the game.
Most developers avoid telling us how long their game campaigns last. They prefer to speak of their stories in vague terms when asked about hours, for fear of putting off prospective customers who might have had an expectation that ends up wide of the mark.

Feature | Rediscovering Lego Dimensions through the eyes of a child
Bertie & son find the magic.
There's a scene in the film Hook where Peter Pan and the Lost Boys sit down for a glorious feast, pungent vapour wafting from pots and pans piled high on a table before them. The lids come off and the children stuff their big satisfied mouths, but Pan, the adult, stays still. He's forgotten how to use his imagination: he can't see the food. He no longer sees the magic.

Watch: We've played five hours of Anno 2205
Houston, we have a preview.
I thought I wanted to play Anno 2205 because it would let me build a city on the moon, but really, it turns out that's just a bonus. Five hours with an early preview build this week have revealed that the game's biggest strength actually comes from the way it handles multiple settlements at the same time. Or rather, how it asks you to handle them.
