  1. State of Decay: Lifeline review

Review | State of Decay: Lifeline review

    No man's land.

Prone to crashes, stuttering drops in frame-rate, juddering animations and a general imprecision of control, Undead Labs' State of Decay is one of the untidiest video games of recent times. This new chapter, set within the wearyingly familiar context of post-apocalyptic America, does nothing to level the technological bumps; you even need to restart the entire game whenever you want to switch between this latest add-on and previous chapters.

  4. Among the Sleep review

Review | Among the Sleep review

    Hushed little baby.

Among the Sleep is the dream of a toddler with bigger problems to worry about than whether there's a monster under the bed. It's wonderfully staged, extremely creepy... and doesn't really work, not least because your avatar quickly starts to feel less like a vulnerable two-year-old than an adult chopped off at the knees. It's one thing to suspend your disbelief enough to crawl over and gurgle like a pro at various dreamworlds, but quite another to hear lines like "I didn't believe in evil before this, but now I'm not so sure," while doing so. Even if they are spoken by a talking teddy bear.

Interview | Richard Garfield: King of the cards

A rare meeting with Magic's reclusive creator.

Richard Garfield doesn't remember much about the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. 16. Video: Watch Dogs lets you spy on an NPC using their Kinect

  17. Ghost Recon Phantoms review

Review | Ghost Recon Phantoms review

    Tom Clancy's Incredible Gun Collection.

There's an old Chris Rock joke about the price of bullets - about making them so expensive that people would be forced to think very carefully about who they shot. While it's not fair to suggest that the consumables in Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Phantoms are as pricey as they are in the alternate reality Rock considers, the joke was going through my mind as I hurled my grenades and chambered my magnum rounds. Those things had cost me, and I wondered if it might have been wiser to save up for a new assault rifle instead. After all, the next one would be marginally more effective.

  18. Ultra Street Fighter 4 review

Review | Ultra Street Fighter 4 review

    Combo finish.

From an outsider's perspective, the differences between Street Fighter 4 and its three existing sequels must look marginal at best. The first game made its console debut back in 2009 and helped revitalise the fighting game genre. Super Street Fighter 4 surfaced a year later and added 10 new characters to the roster, but since then, the game-to-game differences have been tailored more towards the dedicated fans. Ultra Street Fighter 4 continues this tradition with five new characters, a trio of fundamental system changes and not so much as a story mode in sight.

  30. Do higher frame-rates always mean better gameplay?

Digital Foundry | Do higher frame-rates always mean better gameplay?

Digital Foundry explores the pros and cons of unlocked fps vs 30fps gaming.

DriveClub director Paul Rustchynsky recently claimed that "the most important thing for a racing game is a locked frame-rate". "Whether it's 30fps or 60fps," he suggested. "It's vital that every controller input you make is consistent and also equal for all drivers. We chose a locked frame-rate for this very reason and with 30fps we don't have to hold back any of the obsessive visual detail."
