Galak-Z and Perspective dev launches Kickstarter for puzzler Four Sided Fantasy
The mind-bending successor to Digipen puzzler The Fourth Wall.
In early 2012 Digipen student Logan Fieth created a 2D puzzle game called The Fourth Wall. It used the longstanding "wrap-around" effect - in which walking through one edge of the screen repositions you on the opposite side ala Asteroids or Towerfall - as the basis for its brainteasing as players were able to shift the camera around, dictating the level's geometry based on which borders were visible.

Video | Video: Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One live stream
See the game that doesn't exist! Or possibly does.
Cor, wasn't it confusing when Activision indefinitely postponed the release of movie tie-in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One, despite it still coming to 3DS, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and the Wii U? So what's even more confusing is the fact the game is now out, having dribbled out on to the Xbox One's US Games Marketplace to a little parp from Major Nelson and no real clarification from Activision as to what's going on.

Feature | Hooah! When games speak like soldiers, are they missing part of the message?
We're all Oscar Mike.
When the novelist Thomas Pynchon spent a few years in the US Navy in the 1950s, he noticed something strange happening to the men he served with. "I had noticed how in the military voices got homogenized into one basic American country voice," he writes in the autobiographical essay that accompanies Slow Learner, his collection of early stories. "Italian street kids from New York started to sound like down-home folks after a while, sailors from Georgia came back off leave complaining that nobody could understand them because they talked like Yankees." Pynchon refers to this phenomenon as the creation of a "uniform service accent", and I found myself thinking about that at Brighton train station over the weekend. I was in the queue for the coffee stand, and I heard a man ahead of me telling his friend on the phone that he was "Oscar Mike".

Review | JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle review
Fist of the Joestar.
When you think of arcade-style fighting games, what's the first country that comes to mind? There's an argument for the macabre brutality of Mortal Kombat and the superhero antics of Injustice, but for the most part, fighting games are as Japanese as samurai swords, punctual trains and instant ramen. It therefore stands to reason that the Japanese gaming media will be pretty strict on what separates a good fighting game from a truly exceptional one, right? Well, if JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle is anything to go by, maybe not.

Review | Daylight review
Lightmare.
A long-abandoned mental hospital situated in a sleepy fishing village; corridors that itch with maggots; hallways strewn with rotting sofas and lonely hospital trolleys; a breathy, fearful female protagonist who shrieks at every turn ("I know there's someone there!"). Stained walls, glowing pentagrams, squeaking wheelchairs, doors that open with a metallic suck, ghosts that flicker about in Victorian dresses and stare from hollow eye-sockets: Daylight is a misery of horror clichés. Perhaps the only novelty here is the fact that you principally explore the groaning hospital by the light of your smartphone.

Getting to play Destiny: better than Halo?
The time for talk is over.
A shooter is only as good as its sniper rifle. In Halo, the UNSC Sniper Rifle System 99 thunders with each pull of the trigger, as if Zeus himself has hurled a bolt of lightning down from the heavens and into the skull of your enemy. Zoom. Thundercrack. Headshot. Reload.
