  7. Need for Speed Most Wanted review

Review | Need for Speed Most Wanted review

    Better to reign in hell.

This isn't paradise. Most Wanted's host city of Fairhaven is a gritty, aggressively urban location; industrial parks stretch out into docklands and construction sites, while the city centre is a chaos of scaffolding and concrete. Criterion's second run at the Need for Speed brand may evoke the much-loved Burnout Paradise with its open-world setting, but this is a game that's kept grounded by its licences, and one that feels almost po-faced by comparison.

  9. App of the Day: Buddha Finger

Review | App of the Day: Buddha Finger

    The one-inch punch.

I love Buddha Finger, and I think you will too, but honesty compels me to add that it provides a dangerous tutorial for any real-world fights. Lady Shotgun's iOS debut will leave you worryingly exposed on the mean streets of any non-virtual metropolis, and may lead to the foolish belief that even the nastiest gang of thugs can be dispatched with a few taps and swipes. Through a clever use of sound effects and very simple visual feedback, it will convince you that your hand is a lethal weapon. Chances are that your hand is not a lethal weapon, however. Chances are your hand is just a useful grabby thing attached to the end of your arm.

  10. Editor's Blog: Lost Humanity 18 Aftermath

First of all, I want to apologise to Eurogamer's readers for not saying anything else about why I edited Rab Florence's column last week until now. There are a bunch of reasons why I've not said anything. One is that removing paragraphs from Rab's column is the most depressing thing I've had to do in five years of editing the site and I still haven't gotten over it. Another is that the emotion of the moment was much too raw for useful analysis and introspection. And the last reason is that I hoped the column still spoke for itself.

Review | Painkiller: Hell & Damnation review

Do not exceed the stated dose.

Hell, by Painkiller's estimation, is other people running endlessly towards you. Mad axe-monks, skeletal WW1 soldiers in gas masks, children splayed in two by shotgun blasts and men eternally trapped in their duvet covers come laundry day: all desperate for a meet and greet with hero Daniel Garner's whirring blade.

Shove Pro's mockumentary teaser is absolutely hilarious

Puts you in the shoes of a stuntman pushing extras.

  21. Dark Souls: Artorias of the Abyss review

Artorias of the Abyss - the downloadable Dark Souls expansion that's also included in the new Prepare to Die edition of the game - is a two-pronged proposition. It's a pitchfork that digs deeper into the two most fertile areas of the core Dark Souls experience: the beautiful, decaying environments that chronicle the extent of Lordran's curse, and the game's potent competitive multiplayer. As developer From Software's first add-on for the series, it also ranks as a curious example of how a new adventure can be woven into an already tightly-knit world without making it feel too out of place.
