Simian mobile gusto.
Recently I was chatting to fellow Eurogamer contributor and official Nicest Man In Games Journalism Christian Donlan about the important issues of the day. Review | Happy Action Theater Review
Show and tell.
"Daddy!" My daughter is standing in the doorway to my home office, arms crossed, her face bearing the sort of petulant look that only five-year-old girls can pull off. "You're missing all the fun!" Her message duly delivered she gives a haughty turn and runs back to the living room. That'll teach me to check my emails when Happy Action Theater is on.

Digital Foundry | Face-Off: Final Fantasy 13-2
PS3 comes out on top as Lightning strikes twice.
Final Fantasy 13 remains a technical marvel on PS3, but also a relative disappointment for Xbox 360 users who tolerated comparably worse performance, lower native resolution, and sub-par video quality for cut-scenes. The arrival of Final Fantasy 13-2 two years later brings with it a promise of change, where factoring in the development of both versions from the very start addresses many of these criticisms, but the question is whether console parity can be a reality this time around.

Review | App of the Day: Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer
High card.
A general problem among fantasy games is they have incredibly crap titles. It's pretty hard to work yourself up to play something called Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer, because it's a formulaic title that suggests the game itself will be similarly uninspired, full of beardy dwarves and willowy nymphs. Ascension has beards, sure - but the game they hide is beautiful.

Feature | Retrospective: Star Wars Episode I Racer
Pod damn!
Is it still fashionable to hate the Star Wars prequel movies? It would seem so, judging by some of the reactions I've read to the 3D re-release of The Phantom Menace that's just hit cinemas. I remember watching Episode I when it first came out in 1999, coming away disappointed but hardly surprised. It was, after all, a film saddled with an impossible weight of expectation. I didn't hate it. I just found it a bit boring, with a baffling plot (even the opening crawl had me confused) and far too many characters with silly haircuts. And even Darth Maul was rubbish.
