Plus "a few people working" on later chapters.
With the second instalment of Toby Fox's reportedly seven-part "nonviolent" RPG Deltarune steadily approaching its second anniversary, fans are understandably eager to hear when more will be on the way, and while Fox mightn't be ready to divulge that particularly bit of information yet, he has now offered a development update.

Ubisoft reportedly remaking pirate adventure Assassin's Creed: Black Flag
Skull and Bones studio "heavily involved".
While it continues struggling to get one pirate adventure out the door - by which I mean its very long-in-the-works Skull and Bones - Ubisoft is reportedly prepping another: a remake of its rum-soaked high seas gem, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

Digital Foundry | F1 23: a huge technical upgrade - but do the new RT features make a difference?
Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC tested.
The release of Codemaster's F1 23 gives us the most complete version of the series to date, with an upgraded version of its in-house EGO Engine and the return of the fan-favourite Braking Point story mode. The game also includes more ray tracing features, as this year dynamic diffuse global illumination (DDGI) is added on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Series S and PC. DDGI extends an already deep list of RT technologies from last year's game, which included reflections, ambient occlusion and shadows. Going into the game, I was curious to see how much of an upgrade DDGI enables, how close PS5 and Series X can come to the maxed-out PC version, and what settings make sense for PC players.

Review | The Legend of Heroes: Trails Into Reverie - a heartfelt conclusion that signals new beginnings
Once more onto the beach.
Returning to Crossbell and Erebonia left me surprisingly sentimental. Only three years have passed since my introduction to Nihon Falcom's RPG series, but Trails Into Reverie still feels pleasantly nostalgic, retreading familiar ground with a new high-stakes plot that provides critical reflection. After an incredibly long journey, Reverie calls time on Class VII and the Special Support Section's arcs while moving towards a new beginning.

Supporters | Game of the Week: First-person games are always a head trip
Wherever I lay my hat.
Hello! This week our Game of the Week is actually two games - apologies to any purists. This is partly because I simply cannot choose between Synapse, a VR shooter that Ian absolutely adored, and Sludge Life 2, the parkour and graffiti adventure that I have finished playing and am still thinking about.

Review | Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE - A murder mystery in need of conviction
Judge, jury and executioners.
The Danganronpa franchise, spearheaded by creator Kazutaka Kodaka, has endured an afterlife far beyond its humble origins as a PSP murder investigation and school life simulator run by a maniacal two-tone bear. It shows what good writing and character design can get you. Characters like Junko Enoshima are perhaps more recognisable today for their place in TikTok cosplay circles and Tumblr discussions than for the games they came from.

Now, though, with its early access release steadily drawing nearer, we've been given a first proper look at the thing via a new in-game trailer.

Digital Foundry | Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 vs RTX 3060 review: higher frame-rates, less VRAM
Console-class performance with better RT and DLSS 3 - but what about the competition?
Regularly topping the Steam hardware survey as the most popular graphics cards, Nvidia's 60-class products are often the 'go to' product for the mainstream gamer, with the green team usually dominating, even when rival products can be just as good or even better. With 60-class, the power of the GeForce brand comes into its own and to be fair, Nvidia has delivered some excellent GPUs. The GTX 1060 is still supremely popular, while last-gen's RTX 3060 is currently the cheapest GPU you can buy with 12GB of VRAM - an increasingly important spec point. You can think of the RTX 4060 as broadly on par with the old RTX 2070 Super - a $499 product back in 2019 - so it's generally faster than the 3060, but it does ship with just 8GB of RAM.

Review | Synapse - a pure power fantasy that epitomises everything great about virtual reality
A dream within a dream.
It starts with a squeeze of the trigger and a flick of my left wrist. Where once stood an enemy, gun raised and pointed in my direction, there's now an empty space. Looking up I follow the body as it arcs through the air, and there I catch it with my telekinesis powers and slam it into the ground below where it smashes into digital shards on jagged, monochromatic rocks.
