    Comic relief.

I like to think that I've managed to suppress the more extreme elements of my geeky nature. I don't write crossover fan fiction. I've not had the urge to dress up as a superhero since I was at primary school. The daily march of adult responsibility means I've even forgotten some of the more esoteric nerd trivia that had accrued in my brainpan.

Digital Foundry | The Conduit: A true technical leap for Wii?

Can High Voltage's engine compete with PS3/360?

The Wii doesn't get a huge amount of love nor attention at Digital Foundry, and in some senses this is something we should be addressing. For a start, Nintendo's first-party commitment to 60FPS gameplay is impressive, especially bearing in mind the paucity of system resources on offer. However, for now, we'll be taking a look at High Voltage's The Conduit. Does it live up to the tech promises made in the run-up to its launch, and crucially just how well does it perform?

EA attacks the 59p App Store market.

The iTunes App Store may be big business, but big businesses haven't always been its biggest success stories. EA has pumped out a good few scaled-down versions of games like Need for Speed and Spore, but it is former EA man Neil Young whose ngmoco start-up is more widely celebrated, while the tiny likes of Firemint are winning plaudits for their technology, and particularly advances made with the new iPhone 3GS. Meanwhile, games like Mass Effect Galaxy get kicked in the face for trying (among other things).

Review | IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

    Stallin' for Stalin.

15th July, 1940. In a bunker, 10 feet below the bustling pavements of Whitehall, a pudgy, cigar-chewing, bulldog of a man sits lost in thought as the Battle of Britain rages overhead. 15th July, 2009. In that same bunker, 10 feet below the bustling streets of Whitehall, a pudgy, biro-chewing, poodle of a man sits lost in thought as the Battle of Britain rages on a huge plasma screen in front of him. 505 Games couldn't have picked a more appropriate location for demonstrating its imminent (4th September) combat flight sim. The dusty catacombs of the Cabinet War Rooms ooze WW2 authenticity, and, happily, it looks like IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey does too.

The PC version ripped apart in both senses.

Bionic Commando is a great little game, well worth the 7/10 score it received in Eurogamer, but as discussed at length in both Face-Off Round 20 and this more in-depth Digital Foundry article the console versions are something of a mixed bag technically, with varying graphical effects and uneven performance on each platform.
