Interview | Overlord's Overlord
Triumph Studios on Overlord II, Blackadder and evil-doing.
Codemasters has commanded Triumph (and Climax) to make more Overlord, as you have no doubt seen in our Overlord II and Overlord Wii/DS news stories. Which is music - probably thundering kettle drums - to our ears. Overlord let us trample through scenic fantasy villages and set hordes of multi-disciplined and mischievous minions on fat halflings and skinny elves. The result was glowing appraisals of Overlord on Xbox 360, and the same a year later on PS3.

Review | Xbox 360 Roundup
WALL·E, Lost Planet Colonies, DBZ: Burst Limit, Monster Jam, NASCAR 09.
Those who follow my internet ramblings (my mum and the FBI, basically) will probably know by now that one thing guaranteed to make my blood boil is crap games for kids. More specifically, crap licensed games for kids. I'm not just talking about generic design or uninspired construction, but games that have no concept of how to entertain a child. The result inevitably leaves children frustrated and parents out of pocket. And that makes me fume.

Review | Spore
Gene cool.
Will Wright is lying flat out on the floor behind me, his head resting awkwardly on a small pile of books. Pieces of string are tied around his face and pinned to the carpet, with a plastic menagerie of weird alien figurines placed around his head and balanced precariously on the side of his face. I'm trying to play Spore on one of Maxis' laptops, and it's awfully distracting.

Review | Super Monkey Ball
Another falling out.
If you want to be taken seriously as a gaming platform, you need monkeys and you need them fast. Fortunately for Apple, SEGA's first game on the newly-launched iTunes App Store is a conversion of GameCube classic Super Monkey Ball, where you roll capsule-clad simians around mazes in the sky dodging obstacles, collecting bananas and trying to reach a bright blue finish line before the time runs out.

Review | Bejeweled 2
Phoned in.
Say what you like about Apple, but it's clearly taking this portable games console thing seriously. First monkeys, then kart racing, and now Bejeweled 2. It's textbook. They'll be putting on disappointing press conferences and charging 30 quid for fancy carry cases before you know it. Oh.
