VR Corner | PSVR2 review - a VR enthusiast's dream
Sony one Ian Higton.
Look, here's the deal. There are so many factors to consider when reviewing a VR headset like the PlayStation VR 2 that it makes it a little tricky to please everyone. I think John Linneman from Digital Foundry will have the tech-heads and VR veterans covered with his brilliant Digital Foundry review, and I'll definitely touch on what the headset is like for beginners as I'm sure there'll be a fair few new adopters coming in on launch. For this review though, I'll mainly be comparing the experience of using a PSVR2 with that of the original PSVR, a headset I am super familiar with. Chances are, previous PSVR owners will make up the majority of people who have pre-ordered the PSVR2. More importantly however, they will also be the people who will be most aware of all the technical advancements and innovations that Sony has made over its first generation of VR gaming.

Interview | Curry with the GOAT: Jeff Minter on 40 years operating on the far side
"I'll keep making games 'til they plant me."
Jeff Minter is a genius. I don't know how else to describe a developer who's been dabbling in far out magic since 1982 and conjuring up games that have always been pushing at the more extreme edges of the form: fizzing psychedelic light shows backed up by tightly engineered arcade chops, and experiences that dizzy you with their intensity and verve. Somehow his games haven't lost any of their dazzle over his 40 year plus career, all of which to me makes him something of a hero to me.

Digital Foundry | Audeze Euclid review: planar magnetic in-ears tested for gaming and more
These audiophile-grade IEMs cost more than many PCs.
Audeze's Euclid in-ear planar magnetic headphones are extraordinary. And at $1299/£1099, they'd better be. These are intended to be god-tier audiophile-grade in-ears for music and the like, but this is Digital Foundry - so we've focused on their gaming performance in our testing regime. Is it ever worth spending so much on in-ears for this purpose - and are there any cheaper alternatives worth considering?

Feature | The game demos we remember most fondly of all
Disc dive.
Games don't really do demos in the way they used to, do they? I wonder if early access has something to do with it - I suppose it must do. But whatever it is, we miss them, and the barrage of demos released for Steam Next Fest has made us feel all nostalgic for them. Wasn't it funny how for some games, a demo was all you ever needed? Over and over you'd play it, never really wanting anything more.

Digital Foundry | Returnal's PC port is good - but it could be great
Housemarque's PS5 masterpiece gets a range of PC upgrades.
Returnal's PC version is absolutely fine for the most part, and certainly leagues beyond many of the Unreal Engine 4 PC ports we've looked at over the last year or so - but there are still some key issues to be aware of before making a purchase. By and large, we're looking at a game that can scale significantly beyond its PlayStation 5 origins, but there are some issues with ray tracing in particular I'd like to see addressed. Optimised settings? We've got those for you too, but in common with much of the work I put into creating these, ultimately what you end up with is a visual balance for the game highly reminiscent of Housemarque's existing work on PS5.

Review | Like A Dragon: Ishin! review - both a Yakuza greatest hits and a somewhat dated remake
Baku-Mitai.
After Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio overhauled the series' formula with Yakuza: Like a Dragon by giving us an open world, turn-based JRPG with a new protagonist in a new location, Like a Dragon: Ishin would appear to be the next logical step forward. After all, it takes the subtitle of the previous game (a literal translation of its Japanese title), gives us another different location, and, like an increasing number of games from Japanese developers, swaps out its proprietary Dragon Engine for Unreal. In practice, though, it's actually a case of looking back and fulfilling a near-decade long request from fans in the West.
