Review | Passport to London
Nowhere, man.
If Mayor Ken had his way, we would need a passport to London. The M25 would act as a giant metallic barrier to the outside world, built from a wall of endless rows of abandoned cars stacked twelve high. Meanwhile, Tony Blair would declare Greater London part of the United States and driving a car within the confines of the London Orbital would become the exclusive preserve of high-ranking politicians and royalty. The rest of us would sodding well use public transport and be grateful for its existence - but only if we use an Oyster card, wear an electronic tag and don't mind being occasionally blown up.

Interview | FIFA 07
Producer Joe Booth kicks off the season.
Our Liverpool-supporting dep-ed reckons FIFA's a bit like Gerard Houllier - so busy turning corners that it's no longer sure which direction it's facing. Even the recent World Cup edition - a definite improvement on the incredibly shabby Road to World Cup - had significant problems. It's been a fourth-in-the-Premiership sort of game for so long that it's difficult to figure out where it really needs updating. What it needs, you might argue, is new blood. A Rafa.

Review | CivCity: Rome
Rome was debilitated in a day.
The process must have gone something like this: Firefly contacts Firaxis, asks nicely to use its Civ franchise name; together they work out a city-based structure using all the familiar aspects of Civ, applicable to cities at any stage of civilisation; they decide on Rome as its historical connotations make it the best place to start the franchise, and they decide on a hands-off city-building structure, as that's the best way to watch all the little people doing their thing. Oh, and they throw in a military section as an afterthought. Now what do they call it?

Review | International Cricket Captain 2006
Tricky wicket.
International Cricket Captain 2006 is the sort of game that, as a reviewer, you look forward to demolishing with gleeful relish - like a be-capped 1950s schoolboy greedily eyeing up a rival's dangling conker. It's a budget management game, developed by a handful of unknowns. About cricket, that most treacle-paced of sporting pursuits. With creakingly animated sprites (sprites!) instead of beautiful 3D graphics. Did we mention it's endorsed by South African Englishman Kevin Pietersen MBE, a chap so self-obsessed he allegedly insists that girlfriends shout out his name during intercourse? Good golly gosh, we were so ready to royally rip this game a new one.
