Review | Monster Hunter Freedom
Slightly tougher than foxes.
As job descriptions go, Monster Hunter is pretty hard to top. Not only is it concise and wonderfully self-explanatory, it's also the sort of thing that instantly impresses the opposite sex and marks you out as someone whose genetic material is worth adding to the family tree.

Pre-E3: 47 not out.
For a while it looked like Eidos was attempting to drag the Hitman franchise into the dreaded 'spot-the-difference' annual update territory. That was certainly the original plan, at least, with the latest Agent 47 game initially planned for release last autumn. That would have meant four Hitman titles hitting the shelves inside five years, and delivered within the kind of breakneck development schedule that made Contracts seem a little hurried in places. Fortunately, SCi stepped in, bought Eidos and held the project back fully nine months to ensure the game lived up to its rich potential.

Pre E3: Night of the living dead.
Few survival horror games have tried anything as determinedly different as 2004's Forbidden Siren. The brainchild of Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama, the grainy visuals and dark, oppressive atmosphere was unmistakable, but the gameplay went in a completely unique direction that involved avoiding the gaze of the undead by allowing the player to Sight-Jack or effectively 'tune-in' to the what the patrolling Shibito (the living dead) could see.

Review | Armored Core: Nine Breaker
A glitch in Nine wastes time.
I fear I may have inadvertently set myself up as EuroGamer's "giant robot guy". While gushing rather embarrassingly about my admiration for giant robots under the slender pretence of reviewing Armored Core's PSP outing, I ruffled a few feathers by stating that I'd never been a particular fan of the series, finding the ones I had encountered to be rather stodgy shoot-em-ups.

Concluding our coverage of Chart-Track's annual report, today Kristan picks his way through the PC market, the burgeoning Xbox 360 market, and any other markets he can find. He was round here the other day admiring fish and everything. Multi-Market Reed we used to call him. I'm not saying he's promiscuous though. He is, but I'm not saying that. All data (and trout) from Chart-Track's annual report. Used with permission. And in Fisherman's Pies.

Feature | E3 2006: Show Preview
It's time. (Well, nearly.)
Ah, the Tokyo Game Show. TGS. The thing that I remember most vividly about TGS (actually, the thing I remember Japanophile Rob Fahey asserting most repeatedly during his lectures on The Brilliance of TGS, which were something of a constant during our stay) is how well the kids behaved. Surrounded by throbbing pods, throbbing crowds and throbbing twentysomething Japanese ladies in schoolgirl outfits, they didn't squabble, and didn't bitch and whine when mother said move along; they stood in front of the pod, played the game, and got moving when told to. Bless them. Their behaviour is like a distillation of the entire show: busy, but restrained and polite; a vast network of games tapping you on the shoulder to get your attention.
