Interview | John Carmack talks Doom RPG
id Software legend talks.
After 15 years of being right at the bleeding edge of gaming technology, John Carmack's decision to turn his talents to mobile phone gaming was unexpected to say the least. But maybe, after spending so long on creating the Doom III engine, what he needed more than anything was to get his teeth into a project that wasn't going to take four or five years to turn around. Like many in the industry, perhaps Carmack hungered for a return to the era when you could turn around a project in under six months.

What you voted for and what you said.
Last week, we asked you to vote for your favourite games of 2005 and give us an idea of why you liked them so much. You responded in droves, including over 300 games in your top-fives. We chat to Cryptic's Jack Emmert.
We all rather enjoyed putting together Eurogamer's Top 50 Games of 2005 over the Christmas break. First to write back was Jack Emmert, creative director of Cryptic Studios. Cryptic's City of Heroes and City of Villains placed joint tenth in the top 50 list. You can read our comments about them in the 10-6 breakdown.

Review | Project Zero 3: The Tormented
Sweet dreams.
No matter how many rave reviews the Project Zero games seem to get over here, a mixture of publisher indifference, retailer apathy and consumer foolishness has maddeningly conspired to completely scupper any chance of Tecmo's superb survival-horror series selling in Europe. Now onto its fourth European publisher, we can only hope that Take-Two recognises the strength of the series and can do a little more than push it into the dark recesses of store shelves when it finally gets its belated release across the continent next month.

Interview | Sumo Digital on OutRun 2006
Coast effective.
When OutRun2 first appeared on Xbox, we were all a bit surprised - not so much by SEGA's decision to bring a relatively concise arcade racing game to a home console, but by the degree to which relatively unknown developer Sumo Digital had managed to expand the game without losing track of what made the arcade original so good.
