Review | Quake 4
Earth shattering?
Alien menaces never die, they just return in time to show off new gaming technology. That's definitely the case with Quake 4, with Earth's great foe, The Strogg, undeterred by the loss of their leader, the Makron. Far from being thrown into disarray, the cybernetic warriors regroup and rebuild a new, more powerful Makron. Sigh. Best take that one out as well then, eh?

Review | Vietcong 2
Unrelated to King or Donkey in any way.
It's not the traditional way to way to kick off a review, but what the hell: why on Earth release Vietcong 2 now, right in the midst of one of the busiest release periods gaming has ever seen? It's not as if PC gamers are short of outstanding first-person shooters to play anyway, but when you have FEAR, Quake 4, Serious Sam 2 and (shortly) Half-Life 2: Aftermath all vying for PC gamer's attention, it might have been sensible to consider timing Pterodon's sequel a little better. The fact that Vietcong's follow-up is notably the weakest of the bunch merely diminishes its chances of shifting a few copies along the way.

Review | The Warriors
Do we wanna be in their gang? Oh yeah.
Drug dealers and gang leaders. Corrupt cops and haughty hookers. Senseless beatings, mindless murders and more random acts of violence than you can shake a shiv at; yes, it's time for another Rockstar game. But don't go thinking that this is a plain old GTA clone just because it features all of those familiar hallmarks.

Nobody'll confirm, but specifics seem to be leaking pre-BlizzCon.
With Blizzard's inaugural "BlizzCon" convention set to take place on Thursday and Friday, numerous sources are quoting details and posting screenshots of the much-hyped World of Warcraft expansion scanned from early runs of magazines - most notably one in Italy, which seems to have ripped the cat so thoroughly out of the bag that it's clawed half the lining out with it. Blizzard's refusing to comment, but we understand all will be revealed later this week.

Review | Age of Empires III
New World, old gameplay.
There's something rather childish, cynical even, about Age of Empires III. Playing it I'm reminded of a girl at school that started giving me presents (chocolate mainly) on a daily basis. She was, I guess, trying to win my affection. Being confused (it was the first time I'd ever been actively pursued) and being greedy I took the bars for a couple of weeks before guiltily asking her to stop. Right now I feel like I want to say to AoE3 "Stop with the gifts! To win my heart you don't need to sprinkle every map with silly treasure troves. You don't need to let me flick to a 'home city' screen every few minutes so that I can select a free unit or resource windfall. I'm not some spoilt toddler that needs to be bribed with endless sweeties."
