You can see how it's shaping up thanks to these five screenshots.

    Riding Spirits II

    Spike's motorcycle simulation returns.

In Japan, Capcom has published Western games that nobody else would touch, like Grand Theft Auto III, and proven that they can be a success with the country's notoriously picky gamers. In Europe, Capcom has just signed up two games from Japanese developer Spike - Way of the Samurai 2 and this, Riding Spirits II - sequels to games that nobody around here can remember except fanatical weirdoes like me. Profoundly in love with Pandora? Or growing pains for Sam Fisher?

How's your smash-o-meter today? Wound tighter than a G-string? You might want to buy some extra pads, or at the very least some extra padding, because Uncle Sam Fisher is back to taunt us again. You half expect the grizzled old sleuth to appear upside down at your living room window, decked out in his best rubber perv suit, pointing a laser sighted silenced pistol right between your frazzled and disconsolate eyes - all the while singing 'That'll Be The Day'.

    Sight-seeing on Endor and Geonosis

A couple of environments we should all be familiar with, this time courtesy of Pandemic Studios' Star Wars: Battlefront. Movies inside.

If it were not for Return of the Jedi, videogame forests would be distinctly less interesting. Sure, everyone ribs a developer when they make the effort to craft a jungle and then give up fill it with furry critters and exotic interconnected tree houses, but for one this is hardly a LucasArts-only convention - we've seen Ewok Villages in everything from Donkey Kong Country to Brute Force - and for another it's difficult to imagine how else to do interesting forests in three dimensions.

And in the French corner... Rocky Legends!

Ubisoft unveils another boxing title - from mostly the same people, too.

Although Scottish developer Rage produced a lot of fairly rubbish games (sorry guys), the now-defunct software house did manage to polish up the occasional gem, and the original Rocky boxing title was certainly one. Clearly we're not the only ones who thought so either, because Ubisoft and MGM (those lion people) have this week announced Rocky Legends, which is in development at Venom Games - a developer comprised largely of ex-Rage talent.

Review | Tenchu: Return From Darkness

Hi, um, we're here for the co-operative ninja assault?

When Tenchu: Wrath of Heaven was released on PS2 last year, it was hailed - third-person camera issues notwithstanding - as a gruesome and generally competent example of fleet-footed slaughter, and topped the charts. Upon closer inspection though, it was hamstrung by technical problems that regularly conspired to derail our ninja fantasies in punishing and frustrating ways, and ultimately it fell some way short of achieving its full potential. Yet, despite our initial misgivings, the thought that Return From Darkness might address Wrath of Heaven's technical failings was more than enough to tempt us back for another helping. And with so many look-but-don't-touch stealth titles doing the rounds, all that painstaking murder sounded slightly cathartic, too.

Bits And Bobs: Monday News Roundup

Sony Europe to publish Ace Combat 5, Far Cry banned in Germany, Horizons free in Europe, and trailers for Killzone, Def Jam II, Catwoman and Panic Maker.

Rather unsurprisingly, given all their past collaborations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has emerged as the publisher of Namco's aerial shoot-'em-up Ace Combat 5, which it plans to release exclusively on PS2 around this time next year. "Quarter One 2005," it says. Set in the near future, AC5 has you protecting the nation of Osea from an unidentified threat, which needs dealing with over the course of thirty levels. New features in this one include Wingman Command, which allows you to bark instructions at wingmen and join forces with them to carry out group attacks.

And The Rest: Friday News Roundup

MGS Twin Snakes completed in 70 minutes on video, Pandora Tomorrow PC patched, Eidos signs an ambiguous deal for a new game, Empire releases some budget games, and Sony whacks voice-overs into EverQuest II.

Although we don't generally mention the black art of speed running much around here, certain members of the EG team have been known to dazzle spectators by beating a hasty path through the first episode of Quake from time to time, and we all thought that Super Mario Bros. 3 video that did the rounds on the forum a while ago was stunning to behold. Which is why we feel we can get away with mentioning one man's insane 1 hour, 10 minute completion of Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. On Extreme mode. With no saves or anything. It's utterly dazzling, although obviously we wouldn't recommend watching it unless you've completed the game yourself or never have any intention of playing it...

    Red Dead Revolver

We go hands-on with Rockstar San Diego's Wild West action opus. It's due out in Europe on April 30th, and Rockstar's already talking about sequels, but is it good, bad or ugly?

At E3 2002, Red Dead Revolver was one of the most promising titles on the Capcom stand. With superbly atmospheric Wild West visuals and gun slinging action it marked a welcome change of direction for the Japanese publisher. It all looked set to be a big hit for them, and then, just a couple of months later it all went a bit pear-shaped for the Angel Studios-coded project.

This week we've brought you our transcription of John Carmack's GDC 2004 keynote address. In parts one and two the Id legend discussed how games would look like movies, and spoke about AI, development cycles and the impact of new technology. In the third, and concluding part of our transcription, Carmack discusses the slippage problems advancements in technology create and his hopes for smaller teams to breakthrough using this technology, and expands upon his theory that games will feature movie quality graphics sooner than you might think...
