  10. PowerSlave Exhumed is one of the best retro remasters ever made

Digital Foundry | PowerSlave Exhumed is one of the best retro remasters ever made

A classic 90s shooter that's still got it today.

As Eurogamer's technology editor and founder of Digital Foundry, it's fair to say that my focus is usually on the future of gaming, not the past. For many, retro gaming is a voyage of discovery and delight, but for me, it's part of a 30-year-long career. With that in mind, few games retain a vice-like grip on my affections decades on from release - but Lobotomy Software's PowerSlave (or Exhumed as I knew it at launch) is a game for the ages. For me, it's up there with Doom, Quake and Duke Nukem 3D as one of the greatest shooters of the 90s - and now it's back on all modern platforms, thanks to an astonishing remaster from Nightdive Studios. Skip ahead to the video below to see just how wonderful the remastering work is or jump ahead once more to see John Linneman's original DF Retro episode on the title: see an expert deconstruction of what made this game so special.

  14. Sea of Thieves' Shrouded Islands update is an underwhelming start to a promising new era

Since its launch in 2018, Sea of Thieves has been on a dazzling upward trajectory, expanding and evolving with endless invention and reinvention. One of its most fascinating evolutions though, has come in the way it's sought to marry the innate freeform chaos of its emergent sandbox with more structured narrative-driven experiences - experiments that reached spectacular heights with last summer's Pirate of the Caribbean crossover, A Pirate's Life, which set a breathtaking new standard for the sheer cinematic potential of stories in Sea of Thieves.

  19. Does RAM speed matter for gaming on AMD Ryzen? Testing memory up to 4000MHz

Digital Foundry | Does RAM speed matter for gaming on AMD Ryzen? Testing memory up to 4000MHz

And how much can Infinity Fabric overclocking help?

Last month, we tackled the age-old question of whether RAM speed matters for gaming performance. Using an Intel Core i9 test bed, we concluded that yes, you can see measurable frame-rate gains from faster memory performance, with higher frequencies providing a larger boost than tighter timings, and 3200MHz RAM emerging as the standout value choice. Today, we turn our attention to AMD Ryzen systems in part two of our RAM gaming performance tests.

  25. Cyberpunk 2077's next-gen patch changes nothing that matters

Feature | Cyberpunk 2077's next-gen patch changes nothing that matters

CD Projekt's infamous RPG is a hot mess and a must-play. Both can be true at once.

Writing anything good about Cyberpunk 2077 can feel a little like defending the indefensible. This game launched as a disaster on last-gen consoles, got pulled from sale, missed some features that were advertised during pre-launch rounds of marketing (do not get me started on this game's appalling marketing), frequently swerved across the road from mature storytelling to an extremely childish piece of work, and caused seizures without containing a warning.
