  11. Off Topic: Chopped and one of the secrets of creativity

If you've ever wondered what the best channel on TV is, let me help you: it's the Food Network. I can be parked on the Food Network for days, idling from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives to the Barefoot Contessa. The Food Network is generally star-based, which means that it's weirdly class-based TV. And I mean class-based in the RPG sense: Guy Fieri is a sort of Ed Hardy tank, Ina Garten, the smiler with the knife, is a classic rogue. How great is that?

Digital Foundry | DF Direct Weekly talks Witcher UE5, PlayStation 5 VRR and FSR 2.0

Plus: does 4K DLSS make any sense for the next generation Switch?

Usually, the weekly Digital Foundry blog that top and fails the publication of DF Direct Weekly aims to offer a little more insight on some of the key discussion points - but this week I can only refer you to the piece I've already written concerning CD Projekt RED's transition from its own proprietary engine to Unreal Engine 5 for the next Witcher title. Still, it's a meaty topic that we cover in depth this week, along with Sony's tentative steps in finally embracing new features in the HDMI 2.1 specification - including variable refresh rate (VRR).

  24. Patrick's Parabox review - a minimalist puzzler of beautiful recursive depth

According to one famous linguist, what makes humans special is our ability to deal in recursion. To take different clauses or concepts and nest them within each other like Russian dolls. 26. Ghostwire: Tokyo on PC debuts impressive new DLSS competitor

Digital Foundry | Ghostwire: Tokyo on PC debuts impressive new DLSS competitor

But it's another port with stutter problems.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a game with many surprises in terms of its technical make-up. Developer Tango Gameworks has delivered a gameplay concept I wasn't expecting, wrapped up in a very different engine from prior titles, offering up an exceptional level of graphical finesse. The move away from its own idTech-based Unreal Engine 4 has clearly been a great enabler for the team, but I approached the PC version with some trepidation. Many recent PC releases have arrived with intrusive levels of stutter that impact the experience - no matter how powerful your hardware. It's especially common in Unreal Engine 4 titles - and unfortunately, it impacts Ghostwire: Tokyo too.
