Digital Foundry | Astro's Playroom on PS5: a brilliant introduction to the DualSense controller
Feel the difference.
Astro's Playroom arrives pre-installed on every PlayStation 5 and essentially serves as an introduction to Sony's new DualSense controller, brilliantly showcasing its resistive triggers and uncanny haptic feedback. Not only is the game a love letter to the PlayStation generation, it's a strong statement for Sony's vision for the future of gaming. We went into this one unsure of what to expect from the new controller, but it really is something genuinely exciting. In some respects, Astro's Playroom is the Wii Sports for PlayStation 5: the control system feels new and special and the game does a great job in selling the advantages to new PS5 owners.

Digital Foundry | LG 27GL850 review: why we named it the best gaming monitor
Plus a closer look at its Nano IPS screen, 1ms response time and more.
Recently, we named the LG 27GL850 the best gaming monitor on the market after several weeks of testing. This 1440p 144Hz display impressed us due to its excellent colour reproduction and motion handling, while a few missing features were forgiven thanks to its relatively affordable sub-$500 price point. Today, I thought it would be interesting to go into a little more detail about why this new monitor has earned our top recommendation, including a closer look at the monitor's innovative Nano IPS panel, its 1ms GtG response time rating and a few other curios that didn't make it into our summarised write-up.

Review | The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope review - tension aplenty but not many surprises
Springs eternal?
When I was a boy my dad taught me to play chess. Or at least, I think he did. My memories of these things are blurred by dread; they loom behind me like demons in fog, one QTE away from dragging me under. I'm not convinced my dad is any good at chess but he did have one gambit that always worked on me. Whenever I selected a piece he'd nod, lift an eyebrow and say something like "oh, so you're doing that, are you?" Or he'd sit back, like Caesar regarding a supplicant from one of the meeker barbarian tribes, and ho-hum ominously to himself. After five minutes of this I'd be a quivering bundle of flight reflexes, klaxons howling inside my head as I peered owl-eyed at the board, paralysed by the thought of a million potential reversals. What can we learn from this? Well, firstly that my father is a monstrous bully and it is high time I returned, charged with the lifeforce of a thousand PC strategy games, to exact a humiliating vengeance. And secondly, that my dad is actually a Supermassive game in dressing gown and slippers.

Recommended | Ghostrunner review - an exhilarating display of acrobatic first-person platforming
Cyberdunk.
Ghostrunner is a game about the joy of movement, and I love how it never loses sight of that. You're a cyborg ninja and your weapons are speed and agility; everything you do, and everything the game throws at you, revolves around it. There are many enemies and boss encounters and special abilities, but they all centre on the fundamental idea of momentum.

Astro's Playroom is full of PlayStation deep cuts
Fan service.
One of the most pleasant surprises we've had with our first few days with the PlayStation 5 is the pre-loaded Astro's Playroom - an entertaining, innovative 3D platformer that could well be one of the standout titles at launch early next month.
