Digital Foundry | BioShock: The Collection gets upgraded for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X - and the results disappoint

Resolution increases - but there are problems.

BioShock: The Collection returns! There's a Switch port on sale now (we'll have coverage on this soon) but meanwhile, the existing console releases have been updated to natively support PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X, with the promise of support for both consoles' 4K output modes. There are some improvements, resolution is boosted, but bearing in mind the vintage of the original games, we did expect to see a better turn-out.

  3. The Outer Worlds on Switch: an ambitious effort, but the compromises cut too deep

As a platform, the Switch has managed to delight us on numerous occasions with ports that seemingly outstrip the capabilities of the console - to the point where maybe we were starting to believe that anything was possible. Can developer Virtuos pull off another miracle port with The Outer Worlds? "Off the back of our work on Starlink: Battle for Atlas, Dark Souls: Remastered, The Outer Worlds and the coming XCOM2, we now have no doubt that Switch adaptations can be worked for games on any of the current generation of console," senior product Zhang Chengwei told Nintendo Life. After checking out The Outer Worlds, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Project Cars 3 takes the series in a new direction

New career mode, new handling and new details.

One of the very best things to emerge from a world without full metal racing, alongside the deluge of virtual racing with all its drama and hijinx, has been a series of fantastical tweets from MSV press officer Tom Arron as he fills his time before motorsport proper returns. Remember when Le Mans was dropped from the schedule and the Snetterton 24 Hours was revived with a full field of WEC cars? Or when an unfortunate typo in the regs saw a mob of angry Group C cars replace the group B field as they took to Brands Hatch's rallycross circuit?

  13. Valorant is set for inevitable success, but there's still room to improve

Expect it to be huge. Valorant, Riot Games' tactical, abilities- and weapons-based shooter, is finally out in the wild, and it's arrived off the back of a frankly massive "closed" beta. Some of those numbers, like the outrageous watch times and concurrent viewers on Twitch, are artificially inflated - namely by Riot's "drops" system of handing out beta keys to random viewers of streams - but the player numbers aren't. There's good reason for it.

And the possibilities for PlayStation 5 are mouthwatering.

The last big hurrah of the PlayStation 3 era, The Last of Us launched on June 14th, 2013 - five months before the arrival of PS4. 26. New enemies, new abilities and new details - hands-on with The Last of Us Part 2

Naughty Dog has made it very clear that The Last of Us Part 2 centres on some dark human emotions. "The emotional journey of the first game was this idea of, can we - through interactivity, gameplay, storytelling, music, all those things - make you feel, or come as close to feeling, the unconditional love a parent feels for their child," creative director Neil Druckmann tells us after I play through a section pulled from some way into the sequel's story. "There are the beautiful moments that come with that, and the kind of insane horrific moments that could come from that, like how far someone's willing to go for someone they love unconditionally.
